(CLO) At least 50 Boko Haram fighters were killed on Tuesday and seven members of Nigerian police went missing after militants ambushed a convoy monitoring the country's power grid facilities.
Boko Haram, an organization that has waged an insurgency for 15 years, primarily in northeastern Nigeria, remains a threat despite being weakened by military and internal conflict, carrying out deadly attacks against civilians and government targets.

Babawale Afolabi, spokesman for the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, a state agency established to protect infrastructure, said security forces were ambushed by about 200 Boko Haram fighters while on patrol.
Afolabi said more than 50 militants were killed in the fighting, but seven agents were missing, adding that efforts were underway to search for them in the bush. He said "a small number" of other security forces members were injured.
