Jack says Quoc Cuong is bullying him on social media.
On the afternoon of September 7th, on his official fan page, singer Jack's team continued to respond to the controversy surrounding the appearance of football legend Lionel Messi in his music video "From Where I Was Born".
Jack publicly revealed that the amount he paid to the person who connected him with Messi was over 5 billion VND.
Previously, businessman Quoc Cuong – who accompanied Jack on the trip to France to meet Messi in May – accused Jack of fabricating stories and using Messi's image in his music video without permission.
This person claims that the members of the trip had agreed to keep only photos and videos of Messi as souvenirs, which could be posted on social media, and not for commercial purposes.
However, Jack asserts that what Mr. Cuong is doing is "online bullying of Jack."
Therefore, the singer decided to clarify the matter, including his involvement in Mr. Cuong's "service" and the amount of money spent to meet Messi.
He said he accepted the risks, staying in France longer than planned with his team, spending more money, and at times thinking he would have to return to Vietnam without meeting Messi.
"Mr. Cuong kept changing the service price. Initially, Mr. Cuong quoted Jack 80,000 euros (over 2 billion VND), then he increased it to over 200,000 euros (over 5.1 billion VND)."
While in France, Jack borrowed some money from Mr. Cuong (because Jack didn't have enough euros). After returning to Vietnam, Jack paid Mr. Cuong the full amount.
In total, Jack spent over 200,000 euros on Mr. Cuong alone, as per the agreement. Furthermore, Jack personally covered all travel and accommodation expenses for himself and his team throughout the trip," Jack affirmed.
The male singer also mentioned the businessman's action of "posting a clip of Jack signing a loan agreement in a status update on his personal page to tarnish Jack's image (he later removed the clip himself)."
Despite the controversy, Jack said he was still grateful to Mr. Cuong for managing to connect with the overseas team so they could successfully arrange the meeting with Messi.
"Jack had already paid for the connection, but he never imagined that Mr. C. would treat his customers so harshly just because of a false rumor on social media."
"Even though this incident has greatly affected the meaning of the trip, for Jack, meeting Messi was a dream come true. Meeting his idol in person made Jack feel inspired," Jack added.
Giao Thong Newspaper contacted Mr. Quoc Cuong's representatives, who stated: "We have received the information. We will provide the most accurate and clear information at the upcoming press conference."
The full story of the uproar between Jack and Mr. Quoc Cuong.
On the evening of August 31st, Jack released the music video for "From Where I Was Born," featuring Lionel Messi. The Argentinian football superstar appeared in casual attire, talking to and hugging singer Jack in a scene lasting approximately 3 seconds.
Additionally, Messi's face appears in a few other angles of the image.
Mr. Quoc Cuong shared a photo of himself and Jack watching a Messi match in France.
On the morning of September 3rd, the legal representatives of singer Jack issued a statement denying rumors that Jack spent 60 billion VND on a meeting with Messi.
On September 4th, in a post on his personal page, Mr. Cuong asserted that Jack was "deceitful and ungrateful".
On the evening of September 5th, Jack's team issued a statement affirming: "I have invested a significant amount of money to pursue and realize this work and dream. There is absolutely no truth to the rumors circulating on social media that Jack is 'piggybacking' on this project."
I wouldn't have made this video without permission from the beginning. During the trip to meet Messi, I discussed and asked for permission to use his images.
Messi's side agreed on the condition that I would not use Messi's image for commercial, political , or national purposes.
The false rumors regarding the 60 billion VND figure are completely unrelated to any statements or information Jack has provided."
On the evening of September 6th, Mr. Cuong wrote an article recounting how their first meeting had failed because Messi lost a match and was booed by fans, causing him to leave without meeting anyone.
Regarding Jack's suggestion to use Messi's image in the music video, Mr. Cuong affirmed to Giao Thong Newspaper: "There's no way Messi would agree to appear in a music video. With Messi's fame, even the whole world couldn't get him to appear in a music video; the amount of money required would be enormous."
Exploiting Messi's image cannot be as small as 60 billion VND; that's far too little for him. Just recently, the Saudi Arabian side invited Messi and his family to film a 30-second commercial, and they paid them 20 million USD.
Firstly, I'm not in a position to invite Messi to appear in my music video. Secondly, there's no agreement or contract for Messi to appear in the music video."
