Connecting two heritage areas

Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago has become the first inter-provincial world natural heritage in the country. This is the honor and pride of Quang Ninh province as well as Hai Phong city. Each heritage area has its own unique and rare values, which are advantages for socio -economic development, especially tourism and service industries. The two localities owning the heritage are gradually connecting to strongly promote the value of the heritage.

At the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in September 2023, the complex of Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) - Cat Ba Archipelago (Hai Phong) was recognized as a World Natural Heritage. In particular, Ha Long Bay has an area of ​​1,553 km2, a convergence of nearly 2,000 large and small islands creating a majestic, magical, beautiful landscape, blending rocks and water. With its majestic, unique, unique landscape of mountains, caves, unique landscape, geology, and geomorphology, Ha Long Bay has been recognized by UNESCO twice as a World Natural Heritage for its outstanding global aesthetic value and geological - geomorphological value. Ha Long Bay of Quang Ninh was also awarded the title of New World Natural Wonder by the New Open World Organization. With Cat Ba Archipelago, the area nominated for World Heritage is 31,150 hectares, with 388 islands, including: the entire Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba National Park, Cat Ba World Biosphere Reserve, part of the area belonging to the communes: Gia Luan, Xuan Dam. Previously, Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve (in 2004), and was ranked by the Government as a Special National Monument - Scenic Spot (in 2013).

Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage is a popular choice for many domestic and foreign tourists.

To connect the two heritage areas, promote the advantages for development, especially in the field of tourism , Havaco Investment Joint Stock Company has put the high-speed ship Tuan Chau Express into operation on the route Ha Long (Quang Ninh) - Cat Ba (Hai Phong City). Accordingly, the ship runs daily, departing from Ha Long International Passenger Port at 7:30 am to Dong Ho Bay (Cat Ba town center, Hai Phong City) at 8:30 am. Then, the ship will take passengers from Dong Ho Bay to Dong Bai Port and return to Dong Ho Bay. At 3:00 pm on the same day, the ship from Dong Ho Bay returns to Ha Long International Passenger Port. The ship has a modern design according to European standards, with a capacity of up to 300 passengers. It only takes people and tourists about 1 hour to travel from Ha Long to Cat Ba town center at a price of 250,000 VND/person/trip. This is the first modern high-speed passenger transport route to be exploited, connecting the heritage area of ​​Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago. The operation of the high-speed ferry route connecting Ha Long - Cat Ba will help people and tourists have more interesting experiences, reducing traffic and pressure on ferry routes which are very crowded on weekends.

To preserve and promote the unique values ​​of inter-provincial heritage, recently the Hai Phong City government has also established the Steering Committee for the Management of the World Natural Heritage Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago, under the management of this locality.

The Steering Committee assists the People's Committee of Hai Phong City in directing the development of plans, organizing the implementation of tasks of managing, protecting and promoting the value of world natural heritage, proposing to handle and resolve issues arising in relation to the management, protection and promotion of the value of world natural heritage; coordinating with the Management Board of Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) to manage, protect and promote the value of heritage effectively, in accordance with regulations. In addition, the Steering Committee is also responsible for inspecting, guiding and urging departments, branches, units, localities and related organizations and individuals to implement programs and plans on managing, protecting and promoting the value of world natural heritage, as well as developing tourism.

With the proactive and active connection between the two localities of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, it is certain that in the coming time, management and tourism activities between the two heritage regions will be promoted more strongly, thereby promoting the unique and distinctive values ​​of each region in attracting investment and developing tourism.
