Structure and function of forklift radiator
Forklift radiator, also known as forklift cooling radiator, is one of the indispensable parts in the forklift engine cooling system.
The main function of the radiator is to store water and transfer heat from the coolant to the air to reduce the temperature of the water and ensure the supply of coolant to the engine during operation. Simply put, the radiator helps maintain a stable engine temperature of 90 degrees and at the same time prevents the coolant from evaporating.
In terms of structure, the radiator is made from a common material, aluminum. To ensure optimal cooling performance, the radiator is often designed with interwoven pipes and thin aluminum fins. When the aluminum fins come into direct contact with the cool air passing through the radiator, it will help reduce the temperature of the coolant and lead it out of the radiator.
The size of the radiator can be changed according to the requirements of each forklift model to increase the cooling capacity, the core thickness can be increased and the radiator fan can be added. However, this radiator is only installed on diesel forklifts and gas forklifts, while electric forklifts will not have this part.
Signs to recognize common errors in forklift cooling radiators
Coolant discoloration: Coolant is usually clear, pinkish red/green. When coolant is used for a long time, it will be contaminated with impurities and dirt, causing the coolant to be transferred to the radiator and clog the pipes, making it difficult for the coolant to flow through.
Blocked Radiator Fins: When fins are blocked by debris, leaves, bugs, or dirt, airflow can be compromised, preventing the coolant from cooling as it should. Typically, the radiator needs maximum air flow to cool through the thin tubes at the front that resemble fins, carrying hot coolant away from the engine, and the air passing through the fins will lower the coolant temperature.
Distorted water pipes: The cause is a damaged radiator cap, air cannot escape from the radiator causing the water pipes to deform when the engine is off. If you notice this sign, you need to check the radiator cap and replace the water pipes immediately.
Reservoir Overflow: The coolant will return to the reservoir as it expands. If the radiator cannot maintain pressure, the coolant will return to the reservoir faster and more, causing the reservoir to overflow.
Coolant leak: This phenomenon occurs when the spring on the radiator cap is broken or the gasket is torn. You can easily detect traces of coolant leaking when you press the accelerator to run the engine. The location of the leak is usually at the top, so when you open the hood, you can see it.
Engine overheating: The cause is due to the radiator cap not being sealed, air entering inside creates air bubbles, hindering the cooling process, resulting in engine heat not being able to escape.
