On the morning of October 4, Hanoi FC officially appointed Harry Kewell - former Liverpool player and UEFA Champions League champion - as head coach of the capital team.
Before accepting to lead the Hanoi FC, the Australian football legend was once in the sights of the Singapore national team. The press of this country said that Kewell was on the shortlist of 60 candidates for the head coach position, along with another notable name, Fabio Cannavaro.
However, the Singapore Football Federation finally decided to appoint Gavin Lee as interim coach in June, to have more time to find a suitable candidate.
Not only Singapore team, Harry Kewell is also the target of Kanchanaburi Power Club in Thai League 1. However, the former Liverpool player chose to join Hanoi Club.
Born in 1978, Kewell is a familiar face to Vietnamese football fans. In the Australian national team, he had 56 appearances, scored 17 goals and participated in two World Cups in 2006 and 2010.
In 2022, Kewell became assistant coach to Ange Postecoglou at Celtic Club (Scotland), before moving to Japan to lead Yokohama F. Marinos in early 2024. Under his leadership, Marinos won the 2023/24 AFC Champions League runner-up - an achievement that affirmed Kewell's coaching talent.
