(Dan Tri) - The number of passengers passing through Tan Son Nhat airport in 2024 will reach more than 39 million, with more than 16 million international passengers, an increase of 14% compared to 2023.
At the regular press conference of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of December 26, Mr. Tran Van Hoach, Head of the Service Quality Supervision Department of the Southern Airports Authority, said that the volume of air passenger transport in 2024 will decrease compared to 2023.
Specifically, the number of passengers in 2024 will reach 39.8 million, down 2.1% over the same period in 2023. Of which, international passengers will reach 16.2 million, up 14% over 2023; while domestic passengers will reach 23.6 million, down 11% over the previous year.
Currently, Tan Son Nhat Airport has 51 international airlines and 6 domestic airlines operating. Every day, the airport operates an average of 600 flights, serving more than 100,000 passengers/day.

Regarding the preparation for the 2025 Lunar New Year plan, Mr. Hoach said that the peak at the airport usually occurs 15 days before people travel to the northern, central and southern provinces and cities and 15 days after when people return.
The number of passengers and flights during Tet is expected to increase sharply, with an average of 130,000 passengers per day passing through the airport.
"Airlines have opened ticket sales. According to our experience, the peak before Tet falls on the 26th-28th of the lunar calendar, and after Tet it falls on the 5th-6th-7th," Mr. Hoach predicted.
According to Mr. Hoach, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has also adjusted the slot coordination parameters very early, with 42 flights/hour/day and 32 flights/hour/night.
Specifically, from January 21, 2025 to February 9, 2025, the number of flights taking off and landing will be increased to 48 flights/hour during the day and 46 flights/hour at night.
The additional slots due to the increased coordination parameters have been confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority for airlines to supplement the supply capacity on currently full routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Central and Northern provinces such as Vinh, Dong Hoi, Thanh Hoa , Hue, Chu Lai, Pleiku, Buon Me Thuot...

In addition, airlines will also arrange more night flights to local airports and adjust their operating plans to add more flights during peak hours.
On the other hand, the Southern Airports Authority also implemented security plans and applied enhanced security control measures during the 2025 Lunar New Year. The Airports Authority coordinated with units to best serve the travel needs of passengers.
"The port also maintains rapid response communication groups to promptly share information and handle situations," Mr. Hoach added.
The Southern Airport Authority also requested that the city's agencies and departments continue to direct and coordinate with functional units to review, strengthen inspection and handling of violations, and remotely coordinate the gateway routes to Tan Son Nhat airport. "Like last year, the situation at Tan Son Nhat gateway was handled very well and smoothly," said Mr. Hoach.
Mr. Tran Van Hoach also said that during the peak Tet holiday, with a large number of visitors, service work inevitably faces limitations due to overloaded infrastructure.
"Last year, the aviation industry faced many difficulties, with a shortage of aircraft. We always tried our best to serve the people, especially during Tet. We hope you understand that our capacity is only to serve 28 million passengers per year, but this year we will serve up to 39 million passengers," said a representative of the Southern Airports Authority.
