Tourists to Hanoi increased sharply

Total tourist arrivals to Hanoi in May are estimated at 547 thousand, down 1% from the previous month and up 42.9% over the same period last year.

In the first 5 months of 2024, the number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 2,641 thousand arrivals, an increase of 42.9% over the same period last year.

Of which, international visitors in May are estimated at 392 thousand arrivals, down 1.7% compared to the previous month and up 64.3% over the same period last year.

In the first 5 months of 2024, international visitors reached 1,917 thousand arrivals, an increase of 56.5% over the same period last year, of which visitors from Korea reached 223 thousand arrivals, an increase of 26.9%; China 206 thousand arrivals, 2.2 times higher; the US 130.4 thousand arrivals, an increase of 34.2%; the UK 113.6 thousand arrivals, an increase of 59.3%; France 103.8 thousand arrivals, an increase of 76%; Japan 102.6 thousand arrivals, an increase of 37%; Germany 75.8 thousand arrivals, an increase of 66.5%; Malaysia 50.6 thousand arrivals, an increase of 16.6%; Canada 41.3 thousand arrivals, an increase of 40.2%; Singapore 38.8 thousand arrivals, an increase of 7.8%; Thailand 34.4 thousand people, down 28.6%.

Domestic visitors in May are estimated at 155,000, up 1% over the previous month and 7.4% over the same period last year. In the first 5 months of 2024, domestic visitors to Hanoi reached 724,000, up 16.2% over the same period last year.

In Hanoi, there are currently 3,760 tourist accommodation establishments with 71,200 rooms, of which 607 hotels are ranked from 1 to 5 stars with 26,600 rooms, accounting for 37% of the total number of rooms and 16% of the total number of tourist accommodation establishments.

In May, the average room occupancy rate of 1-5 star hotels was estimated at 64.7%, down 1.7% from the previous month and up 1% from the same period in 2023. In the first 5 months of 2024, the average room occupancy rate of 1-5 star hotels was 63.9%, up 2.8% from the same period last year.
There are currently 43 food service establishments, 41 shopping service establishments, 7 entertainment establishments and 2 health care service establishments in Hanoi that have been recognized as meeting the standards for serving tourists. The system of shopping, dining and entertainment service establishments that meet the standards has attracted a large number of tourists and residents to visit and shop.
