Overall, in the first five months of 2024, the number of tourists visiting Hanoi is estimated at 2,641,000, an increase of 42.9% compared to the same period last year.
Of that total, international visitors in May were estimated at 392,000, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the previous month and an increase of 64.3% compared to the same period last year.
Overall, in the first five months of 2024, international visitors reached 1,917 thousand people, an increase of 56.5% compared to the same period last year. Of these, visitors from South Korea reached 223 thousand people, an increase of 26.9%; China 206 thousand people, a 2.2-fold increase; the United States 130,400 people, an increase of 34.2%; the United Kingdom 113,600 people, an increase of 59.3%; France 103,800 people, an increase of 76%; Japan 102,600 people, an increase of 37%; Germany 75,800 people, an increase of 66.5%; Malaysia 50,600 visitors, an increase of 16.6%; Canada 41,300 people, an increase of 40.2%; and Singapore 38,800 people, an increase of 7.8%. Thailand recorded 34,400 visitors, a decrease of 28.6%.
Domestic visitors in May were estimated at 155,000, an increase of 1% compared to the previous month and a 7.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Overall, in the first five months of 2024, domestic visitors to Hanoi reached 724,000, an increase of 16.2% compared to the same period last year.
In Hanoi, there are currently 3,760 tourist accommodation establishments with 71,200 rooms, including 607 hotels rated from 1 to 5 stars with 26,600 rooms, accounting for 37% of the total rooms and 16% of the total tourist accommodation establishments.
In May, the average occupancy rate for 1- to 5-star hotels was estimated at 64.7%, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the previous month and an increase of 1% compared to the same period in 2023. For the first five months of 2024, the average occupancy rate for 1- to 5-star hotels reached 63.9%, an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period last year.
Currently, Hanoi has 43 food and beverage establishments, 41 shopping establishments, 7 entertainment venues, and 2 healthcare facilities that have been certified as meeting tourism service standards. This system of standardized shopping, dining, and entertainment establishments has attracted a large number of tourists and locals to visit and shop.
