Opening Ceremony of the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of October 2nd, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated its 12th Congress (2024-2029 term). Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; representatives from the Standing Committee of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; and 426 delegates.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc stated that over the past five years, the entire world and the country, especially Ho Chi Minh City, have gone through a difficult period, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During the days leading up to the congress, Typhoon No. 3 caused significant losses to our compatriots in the northern provinces. The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front continued to mobilize generous hearts to support those in need. The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee expresses its gratitude for the noble and practical sentiments and gestures of all sectors of the people, the soldiers, and the entire political system,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc further stated that the 12th Congress (2024-2029 term) will focus on evaluating the work of building national unity in Ho Chi Minh City and the contributions and concerted efforts of all strata of the people to the cause of building and developing the city over the past five years; focusing on discussing and agreeing on the action program for the 2024-2029 term, electing the Committee and Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front for the 12th term, and electing delegates to attend the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

At the congress, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, Nguyen Thanh Trung, reported on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee's activities during the 2019-2024 term and its 12th action program (2024-2029 term). Accordingly, during the 2019-2024 term, the great national unity bloc was continuously strengthened and promoted, enhancing social consensus and building a solid foundation for the stability and development of the city.

Propaganda, mobilization, and the gathering and unity of all strata of the people have been strengthened. Campaigns and emulation movements launched and implemented by the Fatherland Front have focused on key areas, closely adhering to the requirements of political tasks and the city's crucial socio-economic goals. Social supervision and criticism, participation in Party and government building have received attention; the role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the people, and participating in the prevention and fight against corruption and negative phenomena, has been strengthened. International solidarity and the expansion of people-to-people diplomacy have been promoted with many positive changes.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, under the leadership of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, after nearly 40 years of reform, the city is proud to be the birthplace of many movements that have been supported and participated in by all strata of the people and spread throughout the country, such as: the "Gratitude and Repayment" movement, "Caring for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers", "Building houses of gratitude and compassion", "Poverty eradication", "All people unite to build a new life in residential areas", "For the beloved Truong Sa, for the front lines of the Fatherland"...

During the 2024-2029 term, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City will organize the development and implementation of key targets, projects, works, and programs.

Specifically, the five targets include: striving for 100% of residential areas to organize the "National Unity Day" annually; each residential area having at least one practical project or activity serving the community; striving for over 50% of residential areas to organize cultural festivals annually, aiming for the goal of being of the people, by the people, and for the people, and projects and activities that promote community spirit; mobilizing support for the "For the Poor" Fund to reach 650 billion VND, contributing to the city's effective implementation of the sustainable poverty reduction program; mobilizing support for the "For the Homeland's Seas and Islands - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" Fund to reach 200 billion VND, contributing to the political system's care for the military and civilians in coastal, island, and border areas, and supporting the military's rear-area work; and coordinating the development of at least 50% of residential areas to be recognized as "Unity, Compassion, and Self-Governing Residential Areas".

In addition to the five targets, there are also key projects, works, and programs, including: Project No. 06-DA/TU dated August 20, 2021, on “Enhancing the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City and the people in supervising Party organizations, Party members, and the activities of the city's government at all levels in the period 2021-2030” (Phase 2); the project “Enhancing the role and effectiveness of the Fatherland Front's working committees in the new situation”; the project “For an environmentally friendly city based on the community”; and the program “Joining forces - For a compassionate, tolerant, and developing city”.
