Opening of the exhibition "Sacred Fire Shines Brightly in Golden History"

On the evening of May 26th at Vietnam National Pagoda, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, the Buddhist Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated the exhibition "Sacred Fire Shines Brightly in Golden History," marking the beginning of a series of events for the Buddha's Birthday Week, Buddhist Calendar 2567 - Gregorian Calendar 2023.

The event was attended by Venerable Thich Le Trang, Standing Member of the Executive Council, Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, Head of the Organizing Committee, along with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of the Executive Boards of districts and counties, Thu Duc City, and a large number of Buddhists and tourists.

Venerable Thich Tri Chon, Member of the Executive Council and Head of the Buddhist Culture Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, delivered the opening speech, sharing the significance of the Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc's flame 60 years ago at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung streets (now the intersection of Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Cach Mang Thang Tam streets), from which Buddhist organizations and sects campaigned to establish the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Venerable Thich Tri Chon affirmed: “To inherit the merits of our ancestors and to keep the lamp of our forefathers burning, on the occasion of the Great Buddha's Birthday Celebration, Buddhist Calendar 2567, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc's self-immolation for the Dharma, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City is organizing a series of activities for the Buddha's Birthday Week, including an exhibition on the life and spiritual practice of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc.”

Venerable Thich Tri Chon added: “In this exhibition, nearly 100 photographs depicting the life of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc are being presented, some of which are being published for the first time. Ancient statues and symbols of old temples from the North, Central, and South of Vietnam showcase the flow of Buddhism over more than 2,000 years and the miraculous light of the Buddha shining upon Vietnam. Another bright torch of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc illuminates the Bodhi mind of Buddhist followers today.”

The exhibition "Sacred Fire Shines Brightly in Golden History" displays images and documents about the life and religious career of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, relics of him and other martyrs, and meritorious predecessors who participated in the 1963 Buddhist persecution, in celebration of the Great Buddha's Birthday (Buddhist calendar 2567) and commemorating the 60th anniversary of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc's self-immolation for the Dharma.

The Buddha's Birthday Week, Buddhist calendar 2567, will take place from May 26th to June 2nd (corresponding to the 8th to 15th day of the 4th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit).

On this occasion, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City awarded Certificates of Merit to members of the Buddhist Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City for their active contributions to activities during the Buddha's Birthday Week.
