Over the years, Tat Thang commune in Thanh Son district has implemented numerous solutions to promote the movement of planting, caring for, protecting, and preventing and fighting forest fires. As a result, it has effectively utilized forest land resources, greened barren land and hills, improved the ecological environment, gradually increased people's income, and created momentum for the development of the forestry economy .
Forest rangers in Thanh Son district are educating residents of Tat Thang commune about forest care, protection, and fire prevention and control.
The entire commune has a total forest land area of approximately 800 hectares, mainly production forests. In 2024, the commune planted nearly 45 hectares of concentrated forest, achieving 180% of the plan and 180% compared to the same period last year, and planted 8,000 scattered trees, achieving 100% of the plan. Recognizing forest planting and forest-based economic development as one of the local potentials, the commune government has recently intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to focus on forest development, introducing new, high-yield varieties for planting, while also providing support in terms of seedlings, livestock, and techniques to ensure the healthy growth and development of the planted trees. Along with raising awareness among the people about forest protection, the commune has established forest management and protection teams to monitor, manage, and protect the forest, and promptly handle violations.
The District Forest Protection Unit proactively coordinates with relevant departments, heads of residential areas, and community forest protection team leaders to disseminate information to forest owners and timber processing facilities on forest management, protection, and development; and to promote and mobilize people to prevent and control forest fires according to the "four on-the-spot" principle. Local forest rangers regularly monitor changes according to the five levels of forest fire forecasts to promptly advise and disseminate information on forest fire prevention and control, and guide forest owners to comply with regulations on clearing undergrowth after logging for reforestation.
Zone 14 is one of the areas in the commune with a strong potential for developing forestry-based economic activities. The zone has nearly 200 hectares of forest, mainly planted with acacia trees. Some households have developed over 10 hectares of forest, bringing in hundreds of millions of dong in revenue each year. Mr. Dinh Duc Tho, a long-time forest planter, shared: “Previously, people in the zone didn't pay much attention to forest development because they didn't recognize the economic value of forests. About a decade ago, when the local authorities intensified propaganda and implemented support projects and provided technical guidance, people in the zone actively planted forests to replace barren land or areas of low-value regenerated forest. Each year, several tens of hectares of forest in the zone reach maturity for harvesting, helping many households escape poverty sustainably or become wealthy. From forest planting, people in the zone have also developed livestock and poultry farming models and fruit tree cultivation, generating considerable income.”
Comrade Dinh Quoc Toan - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "As an area with a relatively large forest area, the commune has determined to develop forestry in an efficient and sustainable direction, contributing to increasing income for forest growers, making forestry a key economic sector with high efficiency. Accordingly, the commune promotes the development of forestry economy associated with processing; implements the movement of planting, protecting, improving forests, exploiting and processing forest products; implements policies to encourage, support, care for, protect and develop forests. Along with developing the forestry economy, the commune encourages businesses to invest in production linked with forest product processing."
In the coming period, Tat Thang commune will continue to implement many comprehensive measures to raise awareness among people in the work of planting, protecting, and caring for forests. People living near the forest will actively participate in planting, managing, and protecting planted forests, contributing to achieving the "dual goal" of both improving the efficiency of forest management and protection and creating livelihoods for the people.
