About 100 km northeast of Tokyo, the Ushiku Daibutsu is located in Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The Great Buddha was built over 10 years and completed in 1994. The work was recognized as the world's largest Buddha statue in 1995. For more than 20 years, this statue has held the record as the world's largest Buddha statue.
The statue is 120 meters high, including a 20-meter lotus pedestal and a 100-meter bronze Buddha statue. The entire structure weighs about 4,000 tons, including 3,000 tons of reinforced concrete and 1,000 tons of bronze.
The statue is made from more than 6,000 highly durable bronze plates. The bronze plates are all cast very delicately, demonstrating the pinnacle of Japanese bronze casting skills.
Inside the statue is a spiritual space structure with 5 floors. Of which, the first floor is the "World of Light"; the second floor is the "World of Gratitude"; the third floor is the "World of Lotus" and the fourth and fifth floors are the space of Linh Ung mountain.
Unlike many other world-famous statues that can only be worshiped from the outside, visitors can take the elevator inside the statue to the 5th floor (equivalent to a height of 85m at the chest of the Buddha statue) to visit many forms of meditation and worship.
The Lotus World on the third floor is the main shrine of the temple, with about 3,400 golden Buddha statues placed on the walls.
The highlight that fascinates visitors when they come to worship here is the park at the foot of the Buddha statue. The garden covers an area of 10,000m2 , representing the Pure Land scene in Buddhism with rich natural scenery, traditional Japanese garden campus is brilliant with all kinds of flowers blooming in season.
Especially in spring, cherry blossoms bloom all over the sky, taking visitors to a fairyland.
Cherry blossoms are blooming on the trees, the background is a carpet of bright pink wisteria flowers creating a rare and beautiful natural scene.
