According to newly released data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), approximately 76,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Japan in April 2026, an increase of 18.6% compared to the same period last year. This is also a record high for Vietnamese tourists in April alone. Overall, in the first four months of 2026, Japan welcomed approximately 282,000 tourists from Vietnam, an increase of 11.7% compared to the same period last year.
According to JNTO, Vietnam was among the top nine markets with record visitor numbers in April, along with South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, the United States, France, and Russia. April holidays and the opening of new routes between Hanoi and Shizuoka contributed to the surge in visitors.
Furthermore, April is also the peak spring travel season in Japan, when demand for cherry blossom viewing, cultural experiences, and shopping surges. The yen's sustained low value also makes Japan an attractive destination for many Vietnamese tourists due to more affordable travel costs compared to the past.

Amidst strong growth in Vietnamese tourists, Japan continues to be one of the most popular outbound travel destinations in Asia for Vietnamese travelers, thanks to advantages such as direct flights, more favorable visa policies, and a diverse range of experiences from shopping and cuisine to seasonal resorts. Japan also recorded over 3.69 million international visitors in April, the highest number for 2016 to date.
