Located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about halfway between South America and South Africa, Tristan da Cunha is the most remote inhabited island on Earth, a small outpost of humanity at the edge of the world . Tristan da Cunha is said to be the most remote island on Earth because of its extremely isolated location in the ocean, far from any major land mass, specifically 2,816 km from Africa and 3,360 km from South America.

It is part of a larger British territory called Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, administered by the UK. The distance from London is said to be nearly 10,000 km.

Tristan da Cunha has the only settlement in the territory, Edinburgh of the Seven Seas - named after a visit by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh in 1867. The island has only 250 inhabitants.

But it is home to a wide variety of wildlife making it an important conservation site.

Traveling to Tristan da Cunha is an adventure. First, you fly into Cape Town, South Africa. From there, you take a boat, as there is no airport on the island.

The island offers spectacular hiking, especially around Queen Mary Peak – the island's volcanic peak which rises to 2,062m.

Due to its extremely remote location and lack of hospital facilities, Tristan da Cunha received medical supplies by supply ship, usually from England or South Africa.

Internet access is limited and expensive, keeping the island relatively isolated from the digital world. To reach this volcanic island, you have to travel many miles across the deserted ocean.
