Vietnam women's volleyball and the test without Bich Tuyen: Match Kenya at 7pm today

Two friendly matches with Spain and Kenya are necessary preparations for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team before the world championship starting on August 22 in Thailand.

On August 20, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team went to Thailand.

For the first time in history, Vietnamese women's volleyball team won the right to participate in the world championship, bringing joy to many fans. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team have carefully prepared for this special event with long-term focus, competing in consecutive international tournaments since the beginning of 2025. And the team has achieved quite positive results, including winning the AVC Nations Cup championship, VTV Cup runner-up, Shanghai Futures Star top 4, stage 1 runner-up and then stage 2 champion of SEA V.League.

Before leaving for Thailand (August 20) to attend the world tournament, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet also had the opportunity to review his team for the last time with practice matches with the Spanish and Kenyan teams. In the match against the Spanish team (ranked 32nd in the world) on August 17, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost 0-4. This was a match in which, according to the coaches, the Vietnamese team changed both their players and their playing style, starting from a lineup without "trump card" Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen in game 1 to the strongest lineup in game 4.

The results of the friendly match do not say it all, but it can be seen that when facing opponents who are capable of threatening right from the kick-off, the Vietnamese team revealed weaknesses in the first step, thereby being passive in launching attacks. In addition, the ability to block and neutralize high-level attacks from the opponent was not well demonstrated by the students of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet.

The Vietnamese girls still have a friendly match with the Kenyan team (ranked 23rd in the world) today. This is an opponent in Group G with the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at the world championship, so the coaching staff of both teams will definitely calculate to avoid "revealing their cards". Most likely, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet will not use Bich Tuyen to measure the strength of the team. Without her, will the team's playing style be greatly affected?

Another goal that the coaching staff aims for is to help the players maintain a good mental state and play confidently no matter who they face. Because at the world championship, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates have to face teams that are much stronger than Spain and Kenya.

The performance of the U.21 Vietnamese women's volleyball team in their first participation in the recent U.21 World Championship in Indonesia left a certain mark. The seniors in the Vietnamese team such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Nguyen Khanh Dang, and Doan Thi Lam Oanh also promise to make a good impression in Thailand in the upcoming difficult journey.

According to the schedule of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group A (competing in Phuket, Thailand), meeting Poland (ranked third in the world, August 23), Germany (ranked 11, August 25), and Kenya (August 27).
