On May 23rd, the People's Committee of Hoi An Dong ward (Da Nang city) organized the "Hoi An Dong Traditional Cake Festival 2026" to promote the essence of Quang Nam's folk cuisine and introduce the beauty of local culture to residents and tourists.
This activity also supports the Da Nang Food Tour 2026 festival, contributing to promoting cultural and culinary tourism while preserving local traditional values.

Within the festival space, the traditional cake-making demonstration and experience area was quite lively, attracting a large number of locals and tourists. Here, visitors not only enjoyed specialty cakes but also experienced many stages of preparation such as grinding flour, pouring batter, wrapping in leaves, and steaming the cakes…
Familiar dishes such as banh beo, banh bot loc, banh xeo, banh it la gai... are introduced along with cultural stories associated with the lives of the people of Quang Nam, providing a visual and vivid experience.
Adjacent to the performance area, the "Quang Nam Traditional Cake Tray" exhibition space also made a strong impression on visitors. The cake trays were designed according to various themes such as "The Soul of Quang Nam Countryside," "Festival Colors," and "The Savory Taste of Home," showcasing the skill, creativity, and rich local culinary identity.
More than 20 stalls selling traditional cakes, OCOP products, and regional specialties created a rich and attractive culinary space for visitors.

A new highlight of this year's festival is the "Culinary Passport" activity for international tourists. With the passport in hand, visitors can experience a culinary journey through Quang Nam province, collect stamps after each time they enjoy a dish at the stalls, and receive souvenirs upon collecting five stamps.
This activity not only increases interaction but also provides a unique experience, helping visitors create memorable impressions of Hoi An Dong's culinary culture.
The festival, which runs until May 24th, promises to become an attractive destination in the series of tourism and cultural activities of Da Nang city.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An Dong Ward, said that cuisine not only meets the needs of daily life but is also a part of the cultural memory of the homeland. In the cultural flow of Quang Nam province, traditional cakes such as banh it la gai (sticky rice cake wrapped in thorny leaves), banh to (rice cake), banh beo (steamed rice cake), banh nam (steamed rice cake), banh dap (rice cake wrapped in banana leaves), banh xu xe (rice cake wrapped in banana leaves), and banh in (rice cake wrapped in banana leaves) have become familiar values across many generations.
According to Ms. Hong, each cake not only has its own unique flavor but also contains a story about the traditional craft village, the skillful hands of the women, and the diligence of the farmers of Quang Nam province.

Through this festival, the local community hopes to contribute to preserving and promoting the value of traditional folk cakes.
