In recent days, in Chat Dao village, Nam Cuoi commune, Lai Chau province, many large cracks have appeared on the hillside, posing a serious risk of landslides. According to local authorities, this area has steep terrain, weak soil, and is affected by prolonged heavy rain, making the situation increasingly complicated. Currently, there are 40 households living in the dangerous area, forced to evacuate urgently to ensure the safety of life and property.
According to records, a large crack has formed with a width of 40 to 80cm, about 50m long. The sliding between the soil layers is up to 2m in some places. The crack is getting wider and wider, seriously threatening the households living below. Especially, during heavy rains at night, all the people in the village do not dare to stay at home and are forced to urgently move out of the dangerous area.
Mr. Tan A Dien, a resident of Chat Dao village, shared: “A few days ago, heavy rain caused a landslide near my house. My whole family was very scared and did not dare to sleep at night. To ensure safety, we dismantled our house and moved to a school in the village. I hope the government will soon support us with land to rebuild a new house and stabilize our lives."

The entire Chat Dao village currently has 82 households with about 400 people. Of these, 40 households are identified as being at particularly high risk because they are located in a ravine right below the slide that has developed a crack. At the beginning of the village, landslides have occurred many times, causing panic and anxiety among the people. Faced with this situation, the local government and functional forces have coordinated to support people in urgently evacuating from the dangerous area.
Mr. Vang A Long, Secretary of the Chat Dao village Party Cell, said: “Immediately after detecting signs of landslides, we reported them to the authorities. Commune leaders, militia forces, and police promptly supported people in dismantling houses, moving assets, and propagandizing so that people would not be subjective. However, there is currently no resettlement site, so most households are still staying at or temporarily staying at schools."

Currently, 13 households have voluntarily dismantled their houses and moved out of the dangerous area. Some households with conditions and land have rebuilt temporary houses, others are waiting for stable weather and new land to rebuild their houses. The People's Committee of Nam Cuoi Commune has mobilized the police force, the Commune Military Command and local people to support the relocation of assets, the construction of temporary shelters and the organization of safe accommodation in emergency conditions.
Comrade Luong Van Quy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Cuoi Commune, said: “Immediately after receiving the notice, the commune coordinated with specialized agencies to go to the scene to inspect, propagate and support people to relocate. The biggest difficulty now is the lack of stable resettlement sites. We have directed field surveys, identified safe areas, and proposed investment in leveling and building infrastructure to soon arrange resettlement for all households."

Faced with the complicated developments of natural disasters, Nam Cuoi commune has sent a document requesting the People's Committee of Lai Chau province to pay attention to and support the locality in the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. At the same time, it is recommended that the province direct specialized agencies to coordinate in assessing the current situation, developing response plans and considering declaring a state of emergency regarding natural disasters in Chat Dao village to have a basis for implementing synchronous measures, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
