Affirming the leading role of farmers in building new rural areas.

Over the past period, farmers' associations at all levels in the province have played a bridging role in helping members develop their economy , reduce poverty, effectively implement the new rural development movement, and make important contributions to building an increasingly developed homeland. Currently, the province has 10 district, town, and city associations, 124 grassroots associations, and 755 farmers' branches with nearly 149,000 members.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, in recent years, the associations at all levels have continuously improved the quality of their propaganda, mobilization, and membership development efforts, making farmers clearly aware of their mission and role as key players in the socio-economic development process in rural areas. In particular, the movements "Joining hands and hearts to build new rural areas" and "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" have been widely embraced by farmer members. This is a crucial factor in building effective and sustainable new rural areas. Therefore, from the beginning of 2023, the Provincial Association directed and guided the associations at all levels to launch emulation movements and organize registration for the title of excellent production and business households. As a result, 100% of the Farmers' Association branches and all 10 district, town, and city associations organized the campaign, with over 70% of farmer households registering for the emulation and signing agreements to implement it. In addition, the Provincial Farmers' Association proactively coordinated with relevant departments and units to organize 122 training courses on transferring scientific and technical knowledge, and 16 workshops for more than 7,329 cadres, members, and farmers on planting and caring for dragon fruit according to VietGAP standards, using pesticides, planting and caring for hybrid corn, disease prevention in rice, rubber tree care techniques, and preserving seafood after harvesting; organized the "Innovative Fruit Technology Day" event; and implemented the project "Model of applying biological products in intensive durian cultivation in a bio-safe manner" in Da Mi commune, Ham Thuan Bac district. “Project to promote and encourage farmers to adopt environmentally friendly rice cultivation practices in Binh Thuan province”…

Furthermore, in the first six months of the year, the Farmers' Association at all levels directly guided the establishment of 5 new cooperatives; bringing the total number of cooperative economic models directly guided and established by the Association to 445 (67 cooperatives, 378 cooperative groups). In particular, the work of providing capital for farmers to borrow for production development has always been a priority for all levels of the Association. Throughout the year, they continued to coordinate with banks to support farmers with capital for production development. Regarding the Farmers' Support Fund (at 3 levels), the total outstanding loan balance is currently over 38 billion VND for 1,951 households/322 projects. From this capital support and emulation movement, many effective economic models have emerged, such as the model of planting and caring for rubber trees, cashew nuts, lotus cultivation for seeds combined with fish farming, and certified rice seed propagation in Duc Linh and Tanh Linh districts; breeding cattle in Vinh Tan, Phu Lac, and Binh Thanh (Tuy Phong district); and freshwater eel farming (Gia An, Tanh Linh). Growing grapes, apples in greenhouses, and green pomelo trees in Phuoc The commune, Phong Phu commune, Vinh Hao commune, Tuy Phong district…

Along with supporting farmers in developing production, since the beginning of the year, the various levels of the association have coordinated with farmers to contribute to building rural roads, dredging irrigation canals, and protecting the environment, with a value of 22.6 million VND, 275 days of labor, and constructing, repairing, upgrading, and maintaining 15.3 km of rural roads and dredging 23 km of irrigation canals.

In the coming period, the Association will continue to innovate and diversify its propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage farmers to implement the Party's guidelines and resolutions, and the State's policies and laws, especially those related to agriculture , farmers, rural areas, and the construction of new rural areas. It will continue to effectively implement the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business during the 2022-2027 period in the province. At the same time, it will encourage members and farmers to actively participate in protecting a green, clean, and beautiful rural environment; and maintaining environmental hygiene in communities and villages.
