On the afternoon of January 31, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department used bait and set traps on tree branches to catch a female long-tailed monkey that attacked people in An Phu Dong ward, District 12. The rare monkey was taken to the Cu Chi wildlife rescue station for care before being released back into the forest.

Two days ago, a 20-year-old female employee at a coffee shop in Vuon Lai was bitten on the leg and arm by a monkey that escaped from a nearby house. She had to get vaccinated against rabies. The monkey then continued to roam around the residential area, causing trouble and stealing things, causing many people to worry.

At the end of 2023, the authorities also used tranquilizers to capture four monkeys that had been causing trouble and attacking people for a week. According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department, people often keep monkeys as pets to guard their houses. When this species escapes from its cage, it often bites people and can cause maladies, hepatitis A, B, etc.

In addition, the above monkey breeds are in group 2 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and when kept in captivity, permission from the competent authority is required.
