About 20% of Vietnamese people live with sinusitis

In Vietnam, more than 20% of the population has to live with chronic sinusitis every year, while head and neck cancer accounts for about 10% of all cancer cases.

These are alarming figures, reflecting the rapid increase in these cases. In this situation, improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of sinus and head and neck diseases has become an urgent requirement.

To meet this need, the International Conference on "Updates on diagnosis and treatment of sinus and head and neck diseases" will take place on November 23-24, 2024 at Hong Ngoc General Hospital with the participation of many experts in the industry.

At this important conference, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, gave an opening speech and said that sinus and head and neck diseases are becoming increasingly complex, requiring doctors to constantly improve their qualifications and apply new advances in treatment. This conference will be an opportunity for doctors to share experiences, learn new techniques and apply them to clinical practice.

During the conference, experts will share new advances in the treatment of sinus and head and neck diseases.

Dr Nora Haloob, consultant ENT specialist at Guy's Hospital, London, will discuss innovative approaches to treating chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP), a condition that causes long-term discomfort and severely impacts quality of life. Dr Haloob will also discuss treatments for cerebrospinal fluid leakage, a complex condition that can pose a risk of serious infection.

A report by Dr. Peter Clarke from Charing Cross Hospital, UK introduces modern techniques in the treatment of nasopharyngeal stenosis and head and neck cancer surgery, providing doctors with additional tools and methods to improve treatment outcomes.

In addition, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Ky will share about the method of reconstructive surgery after laryngeal cancer to preserve speech and breathing functions, while Master, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quang will present the technique of endoscopic thyroidectomy through the oral vestibule, bringing many aesthetic benefits to patients.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) was one of the highlights of the conference. This is a chronic condition that causes persistent symptoms such as nasal congestion, decreased sense of smell, and headaches.

Treatment of CRSwNP is difficult due to the high risk of recurrence, so it is important to update new treatment methods to control symptoms and reduce the rate of recurrence. Dr. Nora Haloob will introduce modern treatment methods to help reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients.

Another notable advancement is preoperative imaging of the nose and sinuses. Dr. Florian Bast from Germany will present the use of modern imaging technologies such as CT and MRI to optimize the diagnostic process, increase accuracy and support doctors in making appropriate treatment decisions.

For thyroid cancer, the diagnosis and treatment of these cases still face many challenges. Dr. Karan Kapoor, MSc., Consultant Head and Neck Surgeon in the UK, introduces new methods in monitoring ultrasound results and accurately diagnosing central nodes in thyroid cancer.

Endoscopic thyroidectomy through the oral vestibule, presented by Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quang, is also a breakthrough, not only helping to minimize scars but also improving aesthetic results for patients.
