>>> Readers are invited to watch the video : Krasheninnikov volcano erupts for the first time in nearly 600 years
Newsweek reported on August 3 that the Krasheninnikov volcano, which had been dormant for about 600 years, suddenly erupted on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, just days after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake in the area.
"This is the first confirmed eruption of the Krasheninnikov volcano in about 600 years," said Olga Girina, head of the Kamchatka Volcano Eruption Response Team.
The eruption produced an ash column about 6 kilometers high. Regional scientists are closely monitoring seismic patterns and lava flows.

The eruption marks the first recorded activity at Krasheninnikov since around 1463, making it a significant geological event, according to experts. The timing, days after one of the strongest earthquakes in recent years, suggests a potential link between tectonic stress and volcanic activity.
"The July 30 earthquake may have triggered volcanic tectonics, a known phenomenon where seismic pressure shakes dormant magma chambers. Such interactions are rare but have been well documented in historical cases around the world," the expert said.
The earthquake is also believed to have triggered the earlier eruption of Klyuchevskoy, Kamchatka's most active volcano.
