On the morning of July 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board coordinated with departments and the People's Committee of Hiep Phuoc commune to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Rach Tom bridge construction project, replacing the old, degraded iron bridge.
The existing Rach Tom Bridge located on Le Van Luong Street, in Hiep Phuoc Commune (Nhon Duc Commune, old Nha Be District) can no longer meet the operating load, posing a potential risk to traffic safety, especially when the number of vehicles passing by is increasing.
The new bridge project has a total investment of 497 billion VND. Of which, the construction cost is about 141 billion VND, and the cost of compensation for site clearance is 226 billion VND.
The new bridge is 174m long, 15m wide with 4 lanes, along with a system of access roads, lighting and synchronous technical infrastructure. The total length of the entire project (bridge and road) is 684m.
Currently, 83/111 households have agreed to receive compensation. The Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Nha Be District and the People's Committee of Hiep Phuoc Commune are focusing on completing procedures, striving to hand over 100% of the site before September 30.
Among the 111 households affected by the project, Mrs. Tran Thi Loan (57 years old) was one of those whose land was completely cleared. Her family had lived in the house next to the canal for many years, but she did not hesitate when asked to hand over the land to build a new bridge.
"The bridge is small and old, so it often gets stuck in traffic, and big vehicles get stuck when they pass through. Now that the new bridge is built, I and the people here are very happy. Even though we have to move, I'm happy that my children and grandchildren and the people can travel conveniently and safely," Ms. Loan shared.
The project is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2026, along with Long Kieng Bridge and Rach Dia Bridge which were completed earlier, contributing to the completion of Le Van Luong road, reducing traffic congestion and strengthening the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province (including the old Long An province).
Mr. Trinh Linh Phuong, Deputy Director of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, said that the unit will closely coordinate with departments, localities and contractors to speed up the progress and soon put the project into operation to serve the people.
