Starting a business with a model of raising pink-cheeked guinea pigs.

Over the years, the economic development movement in ethnic minority areas of the province has seen positive changes, with the emergence of many effective production models that contribute to increasing income and improving people's lives. A prime example is the model of raising bamboo rats by Mr. Phung Van Cau, a Dao ethnic minority man from Bac Thac village, Yen Hoa commune. He is a typical young ethnic minority man who dared to think outside the box, dared to act, and rose to legitimate wealth on his homeland.

Born and raised in a farming family facing economic difficulties, Mr. Phung Van Cau was always concerned about finding a suitable economic development direction that matched his family's natural conditions and capabilities. After researching and learning from practical experience and various information channels, he boldly chose to raise bamboo rats, a type of livestock with high economic value, easy to care for, resistant to disease, and making good use of readily available local food sources.

In the early days of implementing the model, Mr. Cau faced many difficulties due to a lack of experience, limited breeding techniques, and unstable market outlets. However, with the eagerness to learn, perseverance, and determination of youth, he gradually overcame the difficulties, invested in building reasonable enclosures, and applied the correct technical procedures for caring for and preventing diseases in his bamboo rat herd. Sharing about his model, Mr. Phung Van Cau said: “Initially, I was worried because this is a new model, few people are doing it, but I thought that if I didn't boldly try, it would be difficult to escape poverty. I decided to learn and accumulate experience step by step. I hope this model will help young people from ethnic minorities have more economic development options right in their hometown.”

To date, the bamboo rat breeding model of Mr. Phung Van Cau's family has developed to include over 100 pairs of bamboo rats, of which nearly 40 are breeding pairs. The cages are built to ensure hygiene, ventilation, and separate each breeding area scientifically . The main food consists of bamboo, sugarcane, cassava, and corn – readily available crops in the locality, helping to reduce breeding costs. Thanks to proper care techniques, the bamboo rat herd grows well, reproduces regularly, brings stable economic benefits, and contributes to increasing the family's income.

Besides focusing on developing his family's economy, Mr. Cau also actively shares his experience and provides guidance on raising bamboo rats to villagers and young people in the youth union who want to learn. With his efforts and achievements, Mr. Phung Van Cau has been recognized and praised by various levels as an advanced model in economic development in ethnic minority areas of the province, and a typical example in the youth self-reliance and entrepreneurship movement.

According to Mr. Hoang Van Thuan, head of Ban Thac village: Mr. Phung Van Cau is a young man with a strong will to succeed, diligent in learning, and boldly applying new economic models. His model of raising pink-cheeked bamboo rats not only brings economic benefits to his family but also creates a positive ripple effect, contributing to changing the production mindset of the villagers.

The model of raising peach-cheeked bamboo rats by Mr. Phung Van Cau is a clear example of the daring and innovative spirit of ethnic minority youth in the current period. This is a suitable direction, contributing to diversifying livestock, promoting rural economic development, and making a positive contribution to sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas in the province.
