With the determination to start a business in his hometown, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kien, Secretary of the Youth Union of Residential Group 1, Dak Ha Commune, has researched and invested in developing a commercial eel farming model, bringing in hundreds of millions of dong in income each year.
Not only does it bring economic benefits to his family, his eel farming model also contributes to spreading the entrepreneurial spirit among youth union members.
Graduated from University with a major in Science Education Management, after many years of pursuing his passion, nearly 10 years ago, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kien returned to his hometown to help his family develop the economy. With his youth and acumen with digital technology, he regularly researched and learned about animal husbandry through social networking platforms, the Internet, and books and newspapers. Realizing that eels cost much more than other freshwater fish, he boldly invested in building an eel pond.
“I love and am attached to my homeland, so I came back to work and develop. I also have a passion for aquaculture, from which I researched and learned how to raise eels. I see that the value of eels is higher than other fish, the climate, water source and soil here are also quite suitable for raising this eel.”
With an area of 5,000 square meters, he divided it into 5 ponds. Taking advantage of available local resources, he purchased ditch fish from households caught in hydroelectric reservoirs to make fish feed to reduce costs during the farming process. In 2024, his family supplied the market with more than 4 tons of commercial eel, bringing in an income of over 300 million VND.
Not only being a role model in economic development, in the role of Secretary of the Youth Union of the Residential Group, Mr. Kien has been a role model and a pioneer in the work of the Youth Union and the youth movement in the locality. He is willing to share his experiences and guide aquaculture techniques for youth union members who have the desire and idea to start a business in his hometown of Dak Ha.
“The Secretary of the Youth Union often shares and exchanges experiences with other members who want to learn and learn about fish farming as well as replicate the eel farming model with member Nguyen Dinh Kien.”
The prospects from the eel farming model have opened up a new direction in transforming the livestock structure in the locality. Adding more motivation for the youth union members to nurture their ambitions and dreams of getting rich in their homeland.
