After the reunification of the country, despite his busy schedule, General Secretary Le Duan still made time to visit his hometown. His last visit was in 1983, when he met with the Party committee, government officials, and people. The General Secretary emotionally said, “Today I return to my hometown. I am old and weak, and I don’t know if I will ever return again, but today I am so happy that tears well up in my eyes seeing my homeland developing and transforming day by day. What makes me happiest this time is that our village fields have water, allowing us to cultivate rice for two seasons. Our people are hardworking and will surely become prosperous.”
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, 70 years old, from Co Thanh village, Trieu Thanh commune, shared, "I was fortunate to meet General Secretary Le Duan once. He was so simple and kind, shaking hands with everyone he met, asking about their lives, work, and children's education, and finally suggesting ways to choose a suitable profession according to their age and abilities to build a new life. For farmers, the General Secretary encouraged them to increase agricultural production; for people in suburban areas with little land for production, he advised them to learn a trade to join cooperatives and enterprises in small-scale handicraft industries. The General Secretary's suggestions and encouragement were a great motivation for everyone to immediately get to work, so after a short time, their lives became much less difficult."
Mr. Phong further shared that in 1978, he was fortunate to participate in the construction of the Nam Thach Han irrigation project - a project directed by General Secretary Le Duan, which central ministries and agencies researched and invested in. Now, looking at the lush green fields that have yielded bountiful harvests for so many seasons, one can truly appreciate the great strategic thinking of General Secretary Le Duan.
The Party Secretary of Trieu Thanh commune, Le Canh Tuong, could not hide his emotion as he shared: "To realize the instructions of General Secretary Le Duan, in recent times, Trieu Thanh commune and Trieu Dong commune (now Trieu Thanh commune) have closely followed the Party's guidelines and policies and based on the practical situation of life to build directives and resolutions with the desire to bring the best life to the people."
The Party Congress of Trieu Thanh commune, for the 2020-2025 term, determined that the locality will continue to leverage internal resources, take advantage of external resources, effectively implement investment sources, and continue to maintain and develop the new rural development program. Along with that, it will focus on prioritizing the development of industry and handicrafts, trade and services, and accelerate the shift in economic structure towards trade and services.
Accordingly, from 2020 to 2025, the commune strives to achieve an average annual economic growth rate of 13% - 14%. The workforce in agriculture and fisheries will be below 35%, while the workforce in industry, construction, trade, and services will be above 65%. Average per capita income will reach 80-85 million VND/person/year by 2025. The commune will maintain national standard schools at all three levels. The poverty rate will be reduced to below 3%, and the near-poverty rate by 2-3% annually.
Assessing the achievements in socio-economic development over the past period, Chairman of Trieu Thanh Commune People's Committee Nguyen The Phuong said that the targets set by the Commune Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term have been basically achieved successfully. Accordingly, in 2024, the total value of production across all sectors of the commune reached 450.62 billion VND, and the average per capita income reached 73.87 million VND.
To achieve these results, in addition to the advantage of having fertile agricultural land and a reliable water source for two harvests per year, Trieu Thanh commune also has another advantage: its proximity to Quang Tri town, making it very favorable for the development of industry, handicrafts, trade, and services. Currently, Trieu Thanh commune has 120 industrial and handicraft production facilities such as confectionery, sausages, and concrete block casting, and 420 commercial and service businesses offering a diverse range of products to serve the local people.
The commune has also coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology, the District Economic and Infrastructure Department, and the Provincial Rural Development Sub-department to survey production facilities to build product brands, as well as to investigate, survey, and evaluate programs for preserving and developing rural crafts, helping people and businesses promote products, expand production facilities, and increase income for workers.
In addition to focusing on production development, the promotion of education and talent development has always been a priority for the Party committee, government, clans, and the entire society, as instructed by General Secretary Le Duẩn. Accordingly, the emulation movement for good teaching and learning, building friendly schools, and promoting active students has been vigorously implemented by schools. Villages in the commune regularly organize activities to promote education and talent development, and many clans and all schools have established scholarship funds. In 2024 alone, villages, clans, and schools awarded nearly 1,000 scholarships to students, totaling hundreds of millions of dong.
To develop socio-economic conditions in the coming period, Chairman of Trieu Thanh Commune People's Committee Nguyen The Phuong said that the commune's Party Committee and government have set many goals, tasks, and solutions to implement. Accordingly, in 2025, Trieu Thanh commune will continue to promote production, focusing on sowing high-quality rice varieties on an area of 728.9 hectares, striving to achieve an average yield of 12 tons/hectare/year. They will also encourage households engaged in industrial and handicraft production to invest more capital, equip themselves with more machinery to improve product quality, diversify designs, and increase output to improve income.
In addition, the People's Committee of the commune continues to coordinate with higher levels to effectively implement industrial promotion and the development of traditional crafts, while guiding businesses and industrial and handicraft production facilities to register for industrial promotion support projects in 2025 according to Project 2056 dated June 28, 2022, of the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district on some policies to support the development of industry, handicrafts, trade, and services in the period 2022-2026 to expand production, improve the quality of goods, and strive to increase the production value of all sectors by 13%-14%, with average per capita income reaching 75-85 million VND.
