Located about 20 km northeast of Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh), Nhon Ly is a commune on Phuong Mai peninsula. In addition to famous tourist destinations such as Eo Gio, Ky Co, etc., over the past month, Nhon Ly commune has also attracted many visitors with colorful murals spread throughout the ancient fishing village.

According to locals, the ancient fishing village of Nhon Ly was formed hundreds of years ago. For generations, most of the people here have made a living by fishing. Like other coastal fishing villages in the country, this fishing village has a typical architecture with many small houses located close together, low walls, creating a cramped living space and a damp feeling.

For nearly a month now, the ancient fishing village of Nhon Ly has been transformed by wearing many colorful murals. Many houses have become sparkling; the walls and stone steps leading to people's houses are covered with vivid images.

The murals in the ancient fishing village of Nhon Ly are meticulously depicted by the artist with content about the life of coastal people, joining hands to protect the environment and natural scenery, making this place exude a joyful atmosphere.

Mural paintings in the ancient fishing village of Nhon Ly

"The first time I came to the ancient fishing village of Nhon Ly, I found the space here both peaceful and ancient. The fishing village appeared to me more beautiful and brilliant with colorful mural streets" - Ms. Tran Thi Thu (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) expressed.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Chairman of Nhon Ly Commune People's Committee, said that the idea of painting murals on the streets of Nhon Ly fishing village originated from the idea of monk Giac Ty, abbot of Ngoc Hoa pagoda in Nhon Ly commune. At first, monk Giac Ty only proposed the idea of painting murals on the walls of houses along Doc Quan street in Ly Luong village to redecorate the landscape, attracting many people to come and admire.

After that, the locality found this idea interesting, attracting many tourists to visit and bringing efficiency to tourism development, so they continued to mobilize people and businesses to join hands to implement it. The construction capital was socialized. Currently, the locality has hired painters to paint murals, pave blue stone tiles, decorate electric lights on 3 roads: Doc Quan (Ly Luong village), Chua hamlet (Ly Hung village) and the road connecting these 2 villages. All 3 roads face the sea with a total length of nearly 1 km. These are roads with a long history with many households living together, bearing an ancient and rustic look.

"The commune chose themes of ancient villages, the lives of fishermen, natural scenery... to paint murals. It has changed the scenery in the village and the lives of local people. Since these routes were built, many tourists have come to visit; the people are also very excited" - Mr. Dung excitedly said.

According to Mr. Phan Tuan Hoang, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Quy Nhon City, from the change in living space in Nhon Ly commune, the Quy Nhon City government has directed the expansion of this idea throughout the city.
