At the end of December 2017, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province approved the detailed planning task (1/500) of the Holiday Inn Hoi An Resort tourist area (now renamed Hoi An Golden Sea) in Cam An ward, Hoi An city, invested by Nam Sao Investment Joint Stock Company.
The project has a total area of nearly 70 thousand square meters, including 5 hotel areas and 8 villas facing An Bang beach. The initial total investment was 996 billion VND and then increased to more than 2,000 billion VND.
According to the plan, the project was to be completed in 2021. However, due to not being completed on schedule, the investor requested and was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province to extend the project until the end of 2022.
However, up to that point, Nam Sao Investment Joint Stock Company was "late" and continued to have its progress adjusted by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province until July 2023.
According to VTC News reporters, at the end of July 2023, the project with an investment capital of thousands of billions of VND, "reserving" nearly 70 thousand square meters of "golden land" on the coast of Hoi An, was still in a mess and unfinished.
The project is surrounded on three sides by concrete and corrugated iron fences; the remaining side facing the sea is not protected. There are no construction workers inside, only two guards on duty.
Currently, the project has 3 6-storey buildings but is still unfinished. It is worth mentioning that although the project is not completed, some items have shown signs of deterioration and rusty steel.
According to people living near the project, the Hoi An Golden Sea tourist area's "standstill" has caused a waste of "golden land" along the coast in recent years. In addition, the unfinished construction project has made this area messy with overgrown weeds.
