Proposal to initiate legal proceedings regarding the damaged and unsafe Song Lo bridge.

Following reports from several sources regarding the potential safety risks at the Song Lo Bridge in Doan Hung commune, Phu Tho province, the Phu Tho Provincial Police announced the relevant information on November 5th.

Accordingly, the Director of the Phu Tho Provincial Police Department instructed the Provincial Police Investigation Agency to conduct an on-site inspection and carry out investigative and verification measures.

Following on-site inspections in recent days, the Police Investigation Agency found that the Song Lo Bridge showed signs of damage as reported. Therefore, the Police Investigation Agency reported the matter to the Director of the Provincial Police Department to be handled according to the procedures for receiving complaints and reports of crimes, and recommending prosecution as stipulated in the Criminal Procedure Code.

The Police Investigation Agency, in coordination with the Provincial People's Procuracy, the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Construction, and other relevant units, has examined the scene, collected samples for forensic examination, and is investigating and verifying the handling of individuals, agencies, and organizations involved if any violations of the law occurred during the construction and operation of the Song Lo Bridge.

Previously, on October 27, 2025, several sources reported to the Phu Tho Provincial Police about the unsafe condition of the Song Lo Bridge in Doan Hung commune: “Upon discovering that the river water level near the Song Lo Bridge was low, a series of pile foundations of the bridge piers were clearly visible. In particular, at pier T3, the soil foundation had eroded, creating a large cavity about 2 meters high, with one pile foundation exposing rusted reinforcing steel and completely losing its protective concrete layer. The new Song Lo Bridge has been in use for over 10 years, but serious damage has already been discovered.”

On the same day, October 27th, the Department of Construction of Phu Tho province issued a document prohibiting all people and vehicles from crossing the Song Lo bridge while awaiting a plan from relevant authorities to address the issue and ensure safety.
