In particular, the birth of many sets of textbooks demonstrates the promotion of socialization, the mobilization of all intelligence and learning resources of Vietnamese education in the new period. However, reality shows that, besides the great successes, there are still limitations in the process of operating 3 sets of textbooks at the same time. The problem of unifying a set of textbooks for common use in the whole country needs a fundamental solution: How to have a standard set of textbooks that meets the current educational situation and the next few decades? How to ensure fairness, consistency and transparency in textbook selection?
From the experience and results from the Canh Dieu book series, we realize that the answer is partly revealed through years of teaching and learning activities. Textbooks need a new wind, need to have a connection between practice and teaching plans and a connection between teachers and students throughout the teaching program. Right from its inception, the Canh Dieu book series has clearly established the philosophy: "Bring life into lessons, bring lessons into life". The lessons are not dry but close, rich in practicality, closely linked to the psychology of the age group.
For teachers in many schools using the Canh Dieu series, the teaching process of the textbooks has opened up opportunities for creative teaching methods with issues raised in group discussions, learning projects, and experiential learning, so the lectures are very lively and convincing. For parents, the friendly, easy-to-follow structure of the book helps them accompany their children naturally. This makes parents and students learn together, discover together, and create together.
We are most concerned about the quality of training students through the Canh Dieu textbooks. Many and many students achieved high scores in provincial and national excellent student exams, many students achieved high results in the annual high school exam. Teachers teaching Canh Dieu books have also achieved remarkable progress in the process of improving the quality of training, participating in competitions for excellent teachers at district, provincial and city levels. Canh Dieu has proven that when education is linked to practice and takes learners as the center, we can create products that are both scientific and humane.
Back to the fact that we are using 3 sets of textbooks at the same time. The advantages are as everyone knows, however, the simultaneous existence of many sets of textbooks also entails many consequences. Teachers in different localities have to get used to many sets of books, causing difficulties when changing work areas. Students transferring schools face many difficulties. The work of inspecting the quality of books becomes complicated, lacking unified standards.
This reality raises a big question: do we need many sets of textbooks to affirm innovation, or do we need a standard, unified set of textbooks to ensure fairness and effectiveness nationwide? A common set of textbooks does not mean eliminating creativity. On the contrary, if accompanied by an open learning materials system, teachers will have a repository of resources and tools to personalize lessons. When there is an open learning materials source from lesson plans, electronic lectures, illustrative clips, etc., it will help teachers flexibly adjust, suitable for each student and regional characteristics.
We agree that with the Kite book and open learning resources, teachers will be proactive in teaching, parents will no longer be "left out" but will easily access the content and accompany their children. Students will also have the opportunity to access multidimensional knowledge, beyond the limits of traditional printed textbooks.
Building a common set of textbooks cannot be a simple administrative decision. It must be the result of a process of dialogue, criticism, and widespread feedback. Compilers, teachers, parents, and students need to have open, democratic, and frank dialogues to find the best solution. Teachers need to accurately reflect the teaching practices of the textbooks, compilers must know how to listen, and parents need to accompany, monitor, and fairly evaluate the textbooks.
As direct teachers, we think that any textbook that has demonstrated the connection of the whole community: School - family - society should be considered and considered when using. But to go further, a turning point is needed, instead of having many sets of books in parallel, let's create a standard textbook set, accompanied by an open learning material system, both scientific and humane, unified and flexible.
Education is not a race between textbooks, editorial groups, and publishers. It is a journey of companionship to develop future generations. A common set of textbooks, accompanied by open learning materials, will help students learn better, parents accompany each other more effectively, teachers teach more conveniently, and society supervise more transparently. This is not only a wish, but also an order from today's educational practice.
