On October 6, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences , Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology continuously issued 15 earthquake notices in Mang But and Mang Ri communes (Quang Ngai province).
Among them, there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9, occurring at the coordinates (14.871 degrees North latitude, 108.130 degrees East longitude), with a focal depth of about 8.1 km. The earthquake occurred in Mang Ri commune, with a level 1 natural disaster risk. Many people in Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Da Nang City, etc. also felt strong tremors.
On the same day, Mang But 2 Ethnic Boarding School (Mang But commune) reported on the damage and impact of the earthquakes early that morning.


According to reports, due to the impact of consecutive earthquakes that occurred on the night of October 5 and early morning of October 6, many items of Mang But 2 Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities were severely damaged.
At the headquarters building, the tiled roof on the second floor was completely damaged. There is a kindergarten class with 36 students and a computer room with 28 computers serving about 100 elementary school students.




Four boarding student dormitories have cracks that affect the wall structure. This is where 60 students live. Five teachers' dormitories are also tilted, with the roof at the back broken.
At the satellite schools, damage was also recorded. Dak Chun school had two locations with structural cracks between the walls and columns, Dak Lanh school had two classrooms with broken surrounding walls.
For now, the school will temporarily house 30 boarding students in the Art classroom and 30 in the reading room. Computer science classes will be suspended and all computers will be removed to ensure safety.



Mang But 2 Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities has requested the People's Committee of Mang But Commune and the Department of Culture and Society to survey and soon have a plan to repair and overcome the damage, ensuring safety for students and teachers.
Previously, Mang But commune also had consecutive earthquakes. From the evening of October 5 to 11:49 am of October 6, 24 consecutive earthquakes occurred in Mang But and Mang Ri communes.

Mr. Pham Xuan Quang - Chairman of Mang Ri Commune People's Committee said that the 4.9 magnitude earthquake caused strong tremors but did not cause any damage to people or property.
