Improving education quality from digital transformation

ĐNO - Digital transformation in education in some localities in Da Nang has brought about positive changes. From electronic records management, online contact books, STEM classes to artificial intelligence applications, many schools have created a more modern teaching and learning environment.

Bright spots from the grassroots

At Le Hong Phong Secondary School (Tam Ky Ward), digital transformation began with the use of management software. The school has currently deployed software to manage grades, lesson plans, and teacher records.

In extracurricular programs such as "Golden Bell" or smart lesson practice, with the QZI online application, students only need to scan the code to participate, and the results are counted immediately afterward.

Mr. Ca Van Be, Principal of Le Hong Phong Secondary School, said that teachers in the school quickly adapted to digital transformation, not only preparing electronic lesson plans but also exploiting AI to make lectures more vivid. Students are confident in using slides and mastering the lessons.

For three consecutive years, the school has had no students retake the summer exam, while the number of excellent students in the whole school has increased by 30%. Notably, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school achieved the highest result in the old Tam Ky city in the excellent student exam.

Also in Tam Ky ward, Ly Tu Trong Secondary School has a STEM room invested in since 2024 with many modern equipment and machines and 15 laptops and 15 tablets. This is where students in grades 8 and 9 participate in STEM learning with diverse topics, from physics, chemistry to technology, engineering and art.

In each lesson, students review theoretical knowledge and directly assemble and manufacture products such as gravity fan models, mini movie projectors, series-parallel circuits, or even 3D print DNA molecules.

The school has nearly 40 cameras with integrated audio, located in all classrooms and functional rooms. This system not only supports online monitoring and observation but also raises awareness and limits damage to facilities. The school has applied the electronic report card for many years, contributing to the close connection between the school and parents.

For Huynh Thuc Khang Primary and Secondary School in the mountainous commune of Que Phuoc, which still faces many difficulties, the application of digital transformation is considered a breakthrough. The school has synchronized the preparation of electronic lesson plans, managed records on industry databases, and deployed online classes when necessary.

The school now has a computer lab with 24 computers and an audio-visual room for online meetings. These steps help teachers and students gradually adapt to the digital environment.

Need to synchronize facilities

Besides positive signals from the application of technology in management and teaching, reality shows that digital transformation in education still faces many barriers, especially in mountainous and remote areas.

If in urban areas, the infrastructure system has somewhat met the needs, then in mountainous communes like Que Phuoc, the conditions are much more lacking. The computers that were equipped more than 5 years ago have now degraded, have low configurations, and are no longer suitable for operating modern learning software.

The specialized IT classrooms are not up to standard, and there has been no investment in smart teaching equipment. Weak network connections cause frequent interruptions in the exploitation of digital documents, organizing online classes, or even operating management software.

Mr. Doan Van Sinh, Principal of Huynh Thuc Khang Primary and Secondary School, said that when teachers and students access the software together, they often encounter network congestion, interrupting lectures and reducing the effectiveness of class time. Without timely additions to infrastructure and equipment, the implementation of online classes and digital management will be difficult to operate stably.

Mr. Phan Thanh Thanh, Vice Chairman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that the facilities are not yet adequate, the budget for equipping standard machinery is limited; while the team of teachers and staff are just getting acquainted with digital transformation, so there are still many confusions. To make digital transformation a reality, first of all, there must be a guarantee of infrastructure and financial resources.

The commune's goal is to have 100% of educational institutions connected to industry data, all management records digitized, and move towards applying AI in school analysis and management. To do this, more capital is needed to equip infrastructure and equipment, creating fairness in access to technology between the central and mountainous regions.

"Digital transformation in education is opening up great opportunities but also poses no small requirements for synchronization and fairness. Proper investment in infrastructure and human resources will determine the synchronization of digital transformation for central schools and mountainous and disadvantaged areas, narrowing the gap in training quality in the city today," said Mr. Thanh.
