According to information from the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Global Sustainable Architecture Award was founded in 2006 by German Professor, Dr. Jana Revedin. Since 2011, the award has been sponsored by UNESCO and is one of the largest awards in the UIA World Union of Architects award system, honoring many pioneering architects in innovative, humanistic and ecological thinking.
In Venice (Italy), the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Global Sustainable Architecture Award presented the award to architect Hoang Thuc Hao, lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects.
This year, the award was presented to five architects from Vietnam, Morocco, Ecuador, Germany, and France-USA, with the aim of honoring architects who have made outstanding contributions to promoting architecture for people, for the community, and for the planet.
The award recognizes architect Hoang Thuc Hao's more than two-decade journey in creating architectural works with profound community significance, in harmony with the natural environment and indigenous culture - from the rocky plateau of Ha Giang to the windy central region.
When receiving the award in Italy, architect Hoang Thuc Hao shared: “Architecture is not just about building buildings, but about building people and communities. We do not do architecture for ourselves, but to connect, listen and co-create with society.”
