According to the latest statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first half of December (December 1-15, 2023), Vietnam's total import turnover reached US$15.48 billion, an increase of 6.1% (equivalent to an increase of US$893 million) compared to the results achieved in the second half of November 2023.
Specifically, imports of goods in the first half of December 2023 increased compared to the second half of November 2023, mainly in several product groups such as: computers, electronic products and components increased by US$135 million (corresponding to a 3.2% increase); machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by US$62 million (corresponding to a 3.3% increase).
Thus, from the beginning of the year to December 15, 2023, the total import turnover of the whole country reached 312.35 billion USD, a decrease of 9.8% (equivalent to a decrease of 34.06 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2022.

Notably, imports of telephones and components decreased by approximately $12 billion (a decrease of 58.8%). As of December 15th, imports of this product group only reached $8.4 billion.
Thus, telephones and components alone accounted for 35.1% of the country's decline in import value.
The main import market for this product group is China, with $6.7 billion (updated as of the end of November), accounting for 83.6% of the country's total imports of telephones and components during the same period.
Computers, electronic products, and components alone accounted for 26.93% of the country's total import value during the same period. Simultaneously, this was also the largest import and export group in the country in terms of value.
Compared to the same period in 2022, the import value of computers, electronic products and components increased by 5.44% (equivalent to an increase of 4.34 billion USD).
Regarding import markets, South Korea leads with $25.94 billion (updated by the General Department of Customs as of the end of November 2023), an increase of 21% compared to the same period in 2022 and accounting for 32% of the country's total import value of computers, electronic products and components.
Despite a 5.8% decline compared to the same period in 2022, the Chinese market still reached $21.17 billion.
