According to the report of Agribank Ham Thuan Bac branch, at 2:30 p.m. on May 3, 2024, customer Le Thi N. (LTN), residing in Ma Lam town, Ham Thuan Bac district, came to Agribank Ham Thuan Bac branch to complete procedures for a mortgage loan using a savings book to transfer money to her own account opened at the Bank for Foreign Trade ( Vietcombank ).

The accounting department instructed the customer to confirm the balance to make a transaction to mortgage the savings book so as not to lose interest when withdrawing money before maturity. After that, the customer went to the customer service room to make a mortgage loan at the transaction counter of CBTD Nguyen Minh Khanh.

Unexpected rewards for collectives and individuals of Ma Lam Town Police

After receiving the information, CBTD Nguyen Minh Khanh checked the customer's savings book, there were 2 savings books with deposit terms of 12 months; in which 1 savings book has a value of 2.57 billion VND, deposit date January 3, 2024, due date January 3, 2025 and 1 savings book has a value of 1.027 billion VND, deposit date September 12, 2023, due date: September 12, 2024.
CBTD Khanh after receiving the documents noticed that the customer showed signs of anxiety, presented conflicting loan purposes, and the customer's phone was always called by someone talking in a threatening manner. Therefore, it was speculated that the customer might be being scammed by a bad person to transfer money, so it temporarily delayed the transaction and reported to the deputy director of the branch in charge of coordinating the resolution.

Upon receiving the incident report from CBTD, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong Hai - Deputy Director of the branch in charge invited the customer to the office to find out and explain to the customer to avoid being scammed. Although she tried to explain that the customer might be scammed, the disbursement method was not in accordance with the regulations of the State Bank, so the disbursement was temporarily not possible to convince the customer to tell the truth.

However, the customer still did not cooperate and requested to withdraw all savings before maturity to transfer to the customer's own account at Vietcombank to carry out real estate transactions.

While working with the customer, the customer's phone kept receiving calls, the customer's account opened at Vietcombank (opened on May 3, 2024) stated conflicting loan purposes. Determining that this was a fraud, the branch called the Ma Lam Town Police to coordinate verification and prevention. The Ma Lam Town Police sent Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Le Hoai Thang, Deputy Head of the Town Police, to Agribank Ham Thuan Bac branch to work.

Through the verification process, Ms. LTN is residing in Ma Lam town, Ham Thuan Bac district, is elderly, sells vegetables at Ma Lam market, and does not often have large transactions. With his police expertise, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Le Hoai Thang encouraged and promised to guarantee Ms. LTN if anything happened to her. With trust in Senior Lieutenant Thang, Ms. LTN gradually calmed down and reported that she was called by a subject claiming to be a police officer of the Ministry of Public Security, saying that she was involved in a drug possession case and was being investigated in Hanoi, asking her to transfer money to her own account opened at Vietcombank to "serve the investigation" in the amount of 3.2 billion VND.

After about a week of investigation, if she has not violated the law, the state will return the money and interest on the amount she transferred to the account and emphasize that no one can take the money in her own account and cannot lose it (because Ms. LTN stated that she had savings deposited at the bank that had not yet matured, so the subject asked her to go to the bank to do the mortgage loan procedure or withdraw savings early and requested that during the investigation period, she not notify anyone until the case is over. If she lets anyone know or transfers the money not on time on May 3, 2024, her sentence will be increased by 3 to 6 years.

Through the persuasion of the Ma Lam Town Police and the leaders of the Agribank Ham Thuan Bac branch, Ms. LTN realized that this was a scam by bad guys and agreed not to withdraw mortgage loans or withdraw savings before maturity to transfer to the bad guys. At the same time, she thanked the Agribank Ham Thuan Bac branch as well as the Ma Lam Town Police for their dedicated help in preventing it.
