On January 16, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in Ho Chi Minh City with the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab. C4IR Ho Chi Minh City will become a platform to help the city in particular and Vietnam in general shape and develop strategies for the fourth industrial revolution. This is the second center to be established in Southeast Asia, following C4IR Malaysia in 2023.

Ho Chi Minh City C4IR is expected to operate from June 2024 with the functions of research cooperation, policy proposal, technology application and transfer, and resource mobilization for areas of interest to Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam such as green growth, smart cities, artificial intelligence, etc.

C4IR TP will be located in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park. This is considered one of the important economic development projects, a driving force for the city's development in the coming time.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai assessed: "The establishment of C4IR in Ho Chi Minh City has great significance, not only for the important development goals of the City but also for the country's priorities.

In addition, the City can participate in global initiatives of the World Economic Forum, from which the City can establish a comprehensive ecosystem to promote new growth drivers, attract investment, and improve national competitiveness. The Center will become a reliable and effective address to promote cooperation between experts, researchers, and the Vietnamese and international business community.

Mr. Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, commented: “The establishment of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is an important milestone in the partnership between the World Economic Forum and Vietnam, through which the Forum can support Vietnam to achieve its aspirations for innovation, creativity and growth through enhanced international cooperation and connection with many stakeholders.”

C4IR Ho Chi Minh City will become a platform to help Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general to shape and develop Fourth Industrial Revolution strategies at both local and national levels, in line with the country's overall development strategy, as well as contribute to the current global technology development trajectory.

This is the second center to be established in Southeast Asia, following C4IR Malaysia in 2023, and aims to become a center of expertise in co-designing policies and piloting future-oriented policy frameworks, facilitating the development and application of technology in the region and globally./.
