“First shield” to protect children

In recent times, child abuse and violence have continued to occur in the province. In addition to the involvement of all levels and sectors, each family is the “first shield”, promptly detecting, preventing and protecting children.

Mo Village Kindergarten, Chieng Khuong Commune, organizes experiential activities for children.

Since the beginning of the year, the province has had 9 cases of violence and child abuse, involving 34 subjects and 11 victims. The main acts are sexual abuse, violence and some other acts. The causes are due to limited awareness of parents, caregivers and children themselves; lack of supervision and education ; some children live in families lacking affection, not receiving adequate care and education, so they are easily lured and forced. Many families do not report crimes due to fear and inferiority complex.

To proactively prevent and combat child abuse, every year, the Health sector has coordinated with departments, branches and localities to advise the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to issue decisions and plans to direct the care, education and protection of children. Communication work has been promoted in many diverse forms. Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has organized more than 100 activities to propagate and disseminate the Law on Children and regulations related to the prevention and combat of child abuse to over 32,000 people; installed 10 quadrilateral panels; 20 flags; hung 29 banners in response to the Month of Action for Children. Schools organize forums and extracurricular activities to help students learn skills to prevent and combat violence and abuse. On the grassroots loudspeaker system, legal propaganda content is broadcast regularly, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of the whole society in child protection work.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nham, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: The Department promotes communication and education for parents and caregivers about forms of abuse (sexual, physical, mental, labor exploitation); signs of abnormal behavior and psychology in children; teaching children self-protection skills and seeking help from trusted adults. At the same time, build a safe environment where children are willing to share. When suspecting that their child is being abused, parents need to proactively seek support from the law and child protection organizations, absolutely not hiding or remaining silent.

In addition, the Department of Health continues to coordinate to review, detect and promptly support children at risk of abuse; deploy practical models to help orphans, abandoned children and abused children integrate into the community. At the same time, expand crime reporting addresses, encourage people to provide information for early intervention. Pay attention to implementing social security policies for disadvantaged children and protecting and supporting victims of abuse in terms of health and psychology during the investigation and prosecution process.

Ms. Ban Thi Thanh, Group 8, To Hieu Ward, said: From a young age, I taught my children the principle of protecting their bodies, only parents or doctors (with their parents' consent) can touch them. I apply the "5-finger" rule so that my children can distinguish the level of relationship and limit contact with others. My husband and I always spend time talking, creating a warm atmosphere for our children to confidently share everything.

To protect the future, each family is the first strong shield. Parents should be wise guardians and trustworthy companions of their children; build a home that is safe, loving and equips children with self-protection skills. A strong family is the foundation for a safe, healthy society for children to develop comprehensively.
