Hometown gifts from Tai O fishing village
Tai O Fishing Village
Nestled in a corner of the western part of Lantau Island, Tai O fishing village is a charming remnant of Hong Kong from the past. Many people still call Tai O the “Venice of Hong Kong” with stilt houses floating on the water, slender boats weaving their way to take visitors everywhere, a few small wooden paths that are always bustling with laughter and calling visitors inviting to buy some local specialties. The Tanka people, the first fishermen to reclaim and establish Tai O from the early days, still maintain the tradition of catching seafood and processing and drying it according to simple traditional methods. The dried fish glisten in the sunlight, the round trays of salted egg yolks glow with a warm, full color like simple, rustic gifts that are rich enough to warm the hearts of any wandering feet who miss their homeland.
When visiting Tai O, don't forget to linger at a small, pretty cafe along the shore, choose a small table overlooking the harbor to watch the bustling scene on the docks and boats, or simply watch the sunset reflecting on the waves, to see a modern Hong Kong suddenly become so rustic.
