A large-scale illegal sand and gravel mining case in the border area between Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces has just been busted by Lam Dong Provincial Police.
In the early morning of August 3, the Traffic Police, Economic Police, Lam Dong Provincial Police and Dam Rong 4 Commune Police simultaneously raided and caught many people using illegal sand and gravel pumping and transporting vehicles.
At the scene, the police identified Mr. Truong Van Hung, residing in Dam Rong 2 Commune, Lam Dong Province, as operating the excavator, scooping sand and gravel from the stream bed onto the dump truck driven by Mr. Vo Duc Hung, residing in Lam Vien Ward, Da Lat. The dump truck contained about 6 cubic meters of sand and gravel.
About 20m away, a D30 engine with a sand pump, 30m of F90mm hose and an iron frame screening system were also discovered. In addition, at another location, a dump truck was parked, an excavator and a pile of sand about 30m3.
Through investigation, the authorities identified Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh as the person behind this illegal mining activity. However, at the time of inspection, Mr. Thanh could not present any license related to sand and gravel mining.
According to Mr. Phi Sron Ha Pol, an officer of the Economic Department of the People's Committee of Dam Rong 4 Commune, this area has never been licensed for mineral exploitation by any individual or organization.
The authorities have drawn up a record, temporarily seized the evidence and requested Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh to immediately stop illegal mining activities.
Currently, the Lam Dong Provincial Police are expanding the investigation and completing the dossier to strictly handle the subjects according to the law.
