A merchant in Hue was accused by locals of selling roasted pork with wriggling maggots - Photo cut from clip
On the evening of June 6, Mr. Hoang Viet Cuong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Dien town (Hue city) - said that he was checking and clarifying information about people accusing a local trader of selling roast pork with wriggling maggots.
Accordingly, a clip appeared on social networks recording a plate of roast pork with many pieces of meat that looked extremely eye-catching.
However, on the surface of many pieces of meat appeared a creature that looked like a wriggling maggot.
According to the investigation, the owner of the clip is Ms. H. (residing in Huong Tra town, Hue city). Ms. H. said she bought a piece of roast pork from a butcher at a large market in Phong Dien town on the morning of June 3.
After buying the roast pork, Ms. H. placed it on the family's altar to worship the Earth God.
About 15 minutes later, the pork was put in the refrigerator to be preserved for the family's lunch. A while later, Ms. H's child said he wanted to eat roast pork, so she opened the refrigerator, took out the roast pork for her child to eat and discovered it was crawling with maggots.
Ms. H. recorded the clip and live-streamed it on her personal social media page. Her video received a lot of views and comments, most of whom said that the authorities needed to clarify the incident because there were signs of food safety violations.
Mr. Cuong said he has directed local authorities to clarify the incident, and will inform the press after the results are available.
