The Association for Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Disorders Causing Dwarfism (ADEE) has condemned the hiring of dwarfs as entertainment at Lamine Yamal 's birthday party.
ADEE said it would “take the necessary legal and social actions to protect the dignity of people with disabilities.”
According to ADEE's explanation, this incident "not only violates existing laws but also goes against the basic moral values of a society that strives for equality and respect" .
The statement was made by ADEE on the evening of July 13 (local time), Lamine Yamal's birthday, when the Barcelona player returned to training with his teammates.
Earlier on Saturday, Yamal held a coming-of-age party with family and friends.
In several videos posted on social media, the EURO 2024 Young Player of the Year can be seen on stage with Dominican singer Chimbala – who is short in stature.
According to ADEE, hiring dwarfs to perform in certain situations is prohibited by Spanish law. This is stipulated in the General Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The law states: “It is prohibited to organize entertainment programs or recreational activities in which people with disabilities or their disabilities are exploited to create public ridicule, mockery or laughter, violating respect for human dignity.”
“It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, dwarfs are still used as entertainment or attraction at private parties,” said Carolina Puente, President of ADEE.
“What is more worrying is that the incident involves famous people like Lamine Yamal,” the head of ADEE stressed.
“When someone with social influence commits such acts, the harm is even more serious , ” Ms. Puente condemned.
In addition, Lamine Yamal's birthday party also caused controversy because of a video he posted on social media.
Specifically, Yamal posted a “story” on Instagram showing him sitting in a moving car without wearing a seat belt, allegedly filmed after the party ended.
In just a few short summer days, Lamine Yamal has been involved in a series of love scandals. In addition, while the 2024/25 season is still ongoing, he has been repeatedly criticized by the press and some former players for being arrogant.
