Defeating Singapore, U23 Vietnam has a wide open door to the 2026 AFC U23 Championship

VHO - The only goal by striker Van Thuan helped the U23 Vietnam team defeat U23 Singapore, thereby standing before the opportunity to enter the U23 Asian Finals for the sixth consecutive time.

On the evening of September 6 at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ), U23 Vietnam entered the second match of Group C of the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers with U23 Singapore.

In the opening match of Group C, while U23 Vietnam won 2-0 against U23 Bangladesh, U23 Singapore lost 1-2 to U23 Yemen.

A victory against U23 Singapore will open the door for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team to get closer to the goal of winning a ticket to the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

After more than 90 minutes at Viet Tri Stadium, U23 Vietnam has completed the set goal. However, the way the young Vietnamese players achieved victory was quite difficult.

In the first half, U23 Vietnam with almost the strongest squad completely dominated the game, attacked a lot and created many good opportunities.

In the first 20 minutes, U23 Vietnam had 2 dangerous shots from Khuat Van Khang but both failed to score.

The most regrettable was the missed opportunity in the 33rd minute. Nhat Minh poured the ball deep into the Singapore penalty area and Cong Phuong escaped and made a cross inside. Viktor Le ran into the second post, stretched to shoot from close range but the ball hit the post and bounced out.

Right at the beginning of the second half, coach Kim Sang-sik made a change in the attack when he sent striker Le Van Thuan onto the field.

The home players completely dominated the match.

U23 Vietnam continued to control the ball well, attack a lot, create many opportunities but could not take advantage, partly because of the excellence of the opponent's goalkeeper.

After many missed opportunities, U23 Vietnam's efforts were rewarded in the 79th minute.

Phi Hoang crossed the ball from the left wing and Van Thuan chose the right spot to land without having to jump up but still being able to make an accurate header, breaking the Singapore net, scoring the only goal of the match.

Minimal victory helps U23 Vietnam continue to top Group C

The 1-0 victory over U23 Singapore helped U23 Vietnam continue to lead Group C after 2 matches.

U23 Vietnam has the same number of points as U23 Yemen - the team that beat U23 Bangladesh 1-0 in the previous match but is ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference.

On September 9, U23 Vietnam will play the decisive match with U23 Yemen for the top spot in the group and a ticket to the next round.

With a better goal difference, U23 Vietnam only needs a draw to enter the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
