U22 Vietnam attends SEA Games 33: A slim chance for overseas Vietnamese players

Coach Kim Sang Sik is still persistent with the overseas Vietnamese factor in U22 Vietnam, but from the opportunity to the ticket to SEA Games 33, there is still no guarantee for these players.

Right from the first days in power, Coach Kim Sang Sik showed special attention to the Vietnamese-American player resource, especially the group of players in the U23 age group.

After Viktor Le, the captain of U22 Vietnam also called Tran Thanh Trung (Chung Nguyen Do) and Vadim Nguyen to attend an important training trip in the UAE.

This is not a mere experimental move, because coach Kim Sang Sik really sees the value that these players can bring from modern football thinking, basic technical ability, tactical awareness... to U22 Vietnam.

Coach Kim Sang Sik still gives opportunities to overseas Vietnamese players like Tran Thanh Trung.

But who will get tickets?

Being given an opportunity is one thing, but securing a spot on the shortlist is a completely different story, especially as the 33rd SEA Games is fast approaching.

Of the three names, the one considered "stable" and with the most opportunities is Viktor Le because this midfielder was in the U23 Vietnam team that won the U23 Southeast Asia Championship, and has played football in his home country for quite a long time.

However, the importance of Viktor Le in the overall play has not been overestimated. The player currently playing for Ha Tinh is still only average, so the possibility of Viktor Le losing his ticket is still entirely possible, especially when a factor with a higher potential to create a breakthrough like Dinh Xuan Tien returns.

But to get into the list of SEA Games 33 is not simple.

With the remaining two names, Vadim Nguyen and Tran Thanh Trung, the road is even more difficult. Although they are highly appreciated for their football skills and thinking, the weakness of this duo is that they have not had enough time to adapt to the harshness of the V-League. Tran Thanh Trung and Vadim Nguyen have not had enough "exposure" to the harshness of the V-League. Moreover, the physical foundation to meet the competition density of 2-3 days/match of the SEA Games is also a big question mark. Therefore, the possibility that U22 Vietnam will go to Thailand to participate in the 33rd SEA Games without any Vietnamese-American players is very high.

Therefore, the last chance for overseas Vietnamese players to prove their worth will probably be in the pivotal and most important training session in November. If they cannot make a clear difference compared to domestic players, a ticket to the SEA Games will certainly be difficult.
