President Luong Cuong will attend the APEC Summit Week and hold bilateral meetings in South Korea from October 29 to November 1.

On October 24, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, President Luong Cuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 32nd Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week and hold bilateral meetings in South Korea from October 29 to November 1.

This year's APEC summit is taking place in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The event focuses on common future challenges, including artificial intelligence (AI) and demographic change. South Korea hopes the summit will adopt a Joint Declaration to promote regional cooperation for sustainable growth.

The APEC Forum has 21 member economies , including the world's leading economies such as the US, China, Japan..., 9 members of the Group of 20 major economies (G20) and many emerging economies, with about 38% of the world's population, contributing 61% of GDP and 47% of global trade.

Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992. Bilateral trade turnover reached 81.5 billion USD in 2024, an increase of 7.3% compared to 2023. South Korea has continuously been one of the largest tourist markets for Vietnam.

Vietnam and Korea have achieved results in science and technology cooperation such as the Project to Support the Development of the National Innovation Center, the Vietnam - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) project in Hoa Lac, and the Can Tho Technology Incubator.

At the end of 2023, the two sides agreed on joint research cooperation from 2025 in six areas: information technology, biotechnology, climate technology, nanotechnology, digital transformation, and new energy/renewable energy.
