President Luong Cuong is about to attend APEC in Korea.

At the invitation of President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung, President Luong Cuong will attend the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week and hold bilateral meetings in the Republic of Korea from October 29 to November 1.

This year's APEC summit is taking place in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The event focuses on common future challenges, including artificial intelligence (AI) and demographic change. South Korea hopes the summit will adopt a Joint Declaration to promote regional cooperation for sustainable growth.

Regarding the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum ( APEC ), after more than 30 years of establishment and development, APEC continues to affirm itself as the leading regional economic linkage mechanism, initiating and taking the lead in promoting the trend of economic, trade and investment liberalization in the region and in the world.

There are currently 21 member economies, including the world's leading economies such as the US, China, Japan..., 9 members of the Group of 20 major economies (G20) and many emerging economies, with about 38% of the world's population, contributing 61% of GDP and 47% of global trade.

During 27 years of participating in APEC, Vietnam has actively and proactively contributed to promoting peace, stability, cooperation and regional economic connectivity, maintaining APEC's role as the leading economic connectivity mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam is one of the most active members in proposing APEC initiatives and projects.

Vietnam will host APEC Year 2027 and receive strong support from member economies.

Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992. Over the past 30 years, cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly and effectively in all fields from politics, diplomacy, national defense and security, to economics, culture... on both bilateral and multilateral levels.

Bilateral trade turnover is expected to reach 81.5 billion USD in 2024, up 7.3% compared to 2023. Korea has consistently been one of the markets with the largest number of tourists to Vietnam.

At the end of 2023, the two sides agreed on joint research cooperation from 2025 in six areas: information technology, biotechnology, climate technology, nanotechnology, digital transformation, new energy, and renewable energy.
