Farmers actively eliminate poverty sustainably
Son Dong commune has a total natural area of 21.38 km 2 and a population of 71,516 people. The urbanization rate in the commune is increasing rapidly, and agricultural land is increasingly shrinking due to urbanization. This is also a major challenge that the Commune Farmers' Association is always concerned about, determining its role as a subject in the process of economic restructuring and sustainable poverty reduction. The commune farmers' association members play a central role in agricultural and rural development.
The consensus, trust and efforts of more than 3,350 farmer members of Son Dong commune are a solid foundation for the Association to implement poverty reduction tasks through activities: Shifting the structure of agricultural production towards mechanization, applying scientific , technical and high-tech advances, developing towards commodity production, to improve productivity, quality, efficiency and thereby help increase farmers' income.
According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Dong Commune, Do Van Toan, joining hands with the locality to eliminate near-poor households and promptly support households in difficult circumstances, the Association has taken the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" as a guideline, focusing all resources to support members to rise up, escape near-poverty and get rich. This is also one of the key tasks of the Association at all levels from the central level to the branches and groups.
Every year, the Commune Farmers' Association widely propagates, organizes and launches emulation campaigns and registers to win the title of Good Farmer and Business Household at all levels to 100% of branches, groups and members. The movement has attracted a large number of farmer households to participate. In 2025 alone, 2,200 members registered as good production and business households. The movement is also associated with mobilizing farmers to convert crops and livestock and maintain and develop traditional craft villages.
Through the movement of farmers competing in production and good business, farmers in Son Dong commune have approached production according to the market economy, farmers' awareness of commodity production has been raised a step, some production groups have linked up according to the model of professional associations and operated effectively, many production and business models have applied new scientific advances, contributing significantly to the development of the local economy.

Maximizing its role as a bridge, the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune actively supports farmer members to access capital sources from the Social Policy Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, and entrusts loans to members according to the proposed program and plan. Up to now, the total source of the Farmers' Support Fund has reached 6,503 billion VND; lent to 116 households, used effectively, 100% of the capital has been recovered on time; coordinated with the Social Policy Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to manage 16 loan groups, with a total outstanding debt of more than 35 billion VND, helping 576 members borrow to develop the economy and have no bad debt.
Through preferential loans, many farmer households have escaped poverty, escaped near-poverty and become well-off. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Tai Dung's near-poor household in Yen Thai village, who in 2023 borrowed 50 million VND from the Farmer Support Fund to implement a safe vegetable growing model on a total area of 4 sao. Mr. Dung shared that thanks to preferential loans, his family has invested in seeds, fertilizers and safe vegetable care, so the product quality meets consumer demand, helping to stabilize income and increase population. By 2024, my family will escape near-poverty.

Or the case of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoan's family in Phuong Vien 3 village, who is in difficult circumstances, also borrowed 50 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund to implement a model of growing grafted tomatoes on an area of 3 sao, cared for according to safety standards. This is a model that has been implemented for more than 10 years, in the Song Phuong area of Son Dong commune, with high economic efficiency.
Ms. Ngoan said that tomatoes are grown once a year, starting in August, and after more than 2 months, the fruit is harvested from October of the previous year to February of the following year. The revenue from 3 sao of cultivation of Ms. Ngoan's family reaches 7-8 million VND/month. Thanks to that, Ms. Ngoan's family's life is no longer difficult and they have food and savings.

Notably, the inspection and supervision of the use of preferential capital has been strengthened by the Commune Farmers' Association in a proactive, timely, comprehensive and focused manner, contributing to improving the quality and efficiency of the Association's activities and the farmers' movement. In 2025, the Son Dong Commune Farmers' Association inspected 12/26 savings and loan groups with 60 households borrowing capital from the Hoai Duc Social Policy Bank, with the result that 100% of households used the loan capital for the right purpose, with no overdue debt.
“Seriousness and discipline in capital management and use are decisive factors for maintaining and expanding preferential capital sources, directly supporting near-poor and disadvantaged households, helping them have enough resources to invest in production and business, have high income and become well-off,” affirmed Do Van Toan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune.
Contribute to building a comprehensively developed society
Identifying that capacity building for members is the most sustainable way to eliminate poverty, the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune organized and coordinated many training activities, training on science and technology transfer in cultivation, animal husbandry and especially the application of digital technology in production and consumption of products; organized a specialized training course specifically for 110 members who are good farmers and businessmen at the commune and city levels, focusing on core knowledge such as: Project risk analysis, building effective agricultural economic models; training branch and group officials on financial management knowledge; skills in advising farmers on capital access...

To ensure continuous and effective support for farmers, the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune has sent 75 cadres and members to attend the 2025 Association training course at the Hoai Duc Regional Political Training Center, with the aim of improving management knowledge and consulting skills, ensuring that Association cadres have enough capacity to support households that have just escaped near-poverty and households in difficult circumstances.
The spirit of "Solidarity to help each other get rich" of the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune is also demonstrated through specific support actions: The Association has mobilized members to support the Farmers' Support Fund and the Fund for the Poor with a total of tens of millions of VND, used to support working capital, or provide emergency support for cases of economic difficulties due to risks, illnesses, and to prevent the risk of falling back into poverty. In 2025 alone, the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune supported 28 members in difficult circumstances, with a total amount of money and gifts worth more than 30 million VND.

By successfully implementing the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty", and implementing many practical solutions to support members in economic development, the Farmers' Association of Son Dong commune has become a solid bridge, providing capital, knowledge and skills to get rich for members, actively contributing to raising the average income of the whole commune in 2025 to 91 million VND/person/year.
Also according to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Dong Commune, Do Van Toan, on December 15, the Association will organize disbursement for 6 projects: Growing grafted tomatoes, growing safe vegetables, Taiwanese guava, and Dien grapefruit. 82 member households will be able to borrow a total of 4.1 billion VND, each household will borrow 50 million VND to implement the model, within 2 years, with an interest rate of 0.4%/month. This is an effective solution to help farmers in the commune continue to invest in production development, contributing to further increasing income and improving the quality of life.
Chairman of Son Dong Commune People's Committee Pham Gia Loc affirmed that the success in eliminating near-poor households and promptly supporting disadvantaged households to rise up in the commune is the result of a sustainable economic development strategy, in which the Commune Farmers' Association has clearly demonstrated its core, proactive and creative role. Son Dong Commune farmers are also confident, united and rising up, affirming their position as active subjects, contributing to the comprehensive development of Son Dong Commune.
