In previous years, the family of Ms. Le Thi Lieu in Ke village, Son Dong commune, was consistently on the village's list of impoverished households. Her husband passed away early, and she worked tirelessly to raise and educate her three children, yet poverty persisted. Since 2024, as her children grew up and found stable jobs, the family's life has become less difficult. Currently, her two daughters are married, and her son and daughter-in-law have stable jobs at the Quang Chau Industrial Park, earning nearly 20 million VND per month. With savings from the family and support from relatives, this year the family was able to build a spacious new house to replace their old, dilapidated one.

Realizing that her family's situation had stabilized, Ms. Lieu proactively applied to be removed from the list of impoverished households. "My family's difficulties have lessened. I want to be removed from the list of impoverished households so that the local authorities can provide support to those who are more disadvantaged," Ms. Lieu shared. Besides the income from her son and daughter-in-law working as factory workers, Ms. Lieu also grows acacia and eucalyptus trees to supplement her income.
While the process of reviewing impoverished households faces difficulties in many places, the example of Ms. Le Thi Lieu voluntarily requesting to be removed from the list of impoverished households is highly appreciated. Ms. Luu Thi Minh, Deputy Head of the village, said that in implementing the plan to review impoverished and near-impoverished households in 2025, the village closely followed the guidelines to ensure objectivity and transparency. As a result, the village has two households that have escaped poverty. "Having helped families in difficult circumstances for many years, we always acknowledge Ms. Lieu's spirit of overcoming difficulties and her active participation in the movement to develop the local economy and build a cultural life," Ms. Minh added.
In Ngoc Thien commune, the review of poor and near-poor households is being implemented comprehensively and scientifically . According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Commune's Economic Department, to ensure the review is conducted according to regulations, the commune assigns officials to directly guide villages on the implementation methods; at the same time, a common Zalo group has been established to receive and answer questions. Working groups report on progress daily, through which the commune promptly directs relevant departments to organize supervision, assessment, and handling of arising difficulties.

Preliminary results show that the whole commune still has 156 poor households and 264 near-poor households, a decrease compared to 2024. Fortunately, 45 households voluntarily applied to escape poverty, concentrated in the villages: Suoi Chinh, Nui Inh, Van Lap, Hoi Phu, Dong Khanh, Ai, Bai Dinh, Trai Moi, Trung Dong...
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Head of Ai village, said: "After decades of support from the State, the Party Committee, the village management board, and various organizations, this year, the people of Ai village are delighted that the lives of the last three poor households in the village have become more stable and have been removed from the list of poor households." Along with Ai village, recently the villages of Bai Dinh, Trai Moi, and Trung Dong have also eradicated poverty. This is a positive sign showing a strong shift in people's awareness of social welfare policies.
Five years ago, very few households voluntarily requested to be removed from the list of poor households due to a strong mentality of dependence on government support policies. Experience in Son Dong and Ngoc Thien communes shows that the above results were achieved thanks to the Party committees, government, Fatherland Front, and socio- political organizations intensifying propaganda and raising people's awareness of poverty reduction; at the same time, the localities effectively implemented policies supporting seedlings, livestock, preferential loans, housing construction, vocational training, and job placement. Localities have gradually shifted from a "giveaway" approach to conditional support, focusing on "giving a fishing rod, not a string of fish," creating a foundation to help people overcome their reliance on government policies and become self-reliant in escaping poverty.
In reality, people voluntarily writing applications to escape poverty not only because their circumstances have improved but also to demonstrate community responsibility and share support policies with families in greater need. These applications stem from awareness and responsibility, motivating households to strive for a better future. This commendable action has contributed to spreading the spirit of self-reliance and inspiring the aspiration for sustainable poverty alleviation in many localities.
