Viettel completes construction of 20,000 new 5G stations

(Chinhphu.vn) - The Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) announced that it has reached the milestone of installing 20,000 new 5G stations in 2025, more than 3 weeks ahead of the commitment plan to the Government. It is expected that by December 31, 2025, the total number of Viettel 5G stations accumulated in the entire network will reach 30,000 stations, covering 90% of the outdoor area nationwide.

From now until the end of December 2025, Viettel Group continues to aim to exceed its commitment, installing 23,500 new stations, nearly 4 times the number of stations installed in 2024.

In early 2025, the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 193/2025/QH15 dated February 19, 2025 on piloting a number of special mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in science , technology, innovation and national digital transformation. According to detailed instructions in Decree No. 88/2025/ND-CP of the Government, the State will support businesses in deploying 5G network infrastructure nationwide if at least 20,000 5G transmission stations are accepted and put into use from February 19 to December 31, 2025.

This is a special policy, aiming to create a breakthrough in national digital transformation, realizing the goal of advanced and modern digital technology infrastructure, and nationwide 5G coverage by 2030 of Resolution 57-NQ/TW.

Outstanding coverage

With the new deployment, Viettel will own the largest 5G network in Vietnam with a cumulative 30,000 stations, 5G coverage to 90% of outdoor areas and 70% of indoor areas nationwide, including both urban and rural areas.

"Resolution 57 of the Politburo, focusing on promoting breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, has created a strong driving force for Viettel. Viettel recognizes its responsibility and concentrates all resources to deploy 5G network infrastructure as soon as possible, which is the technological foundation to serve the Government, businesses and people in effective digital transformation," affirmed Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group.

It is expected that by the end of December 2025, the total number of 5G stations will reach 30,000 Large stations.

Superior in technology

Not only does it have a large coverage area, Viettel's 5G network has an outstanding advantage in modern technology. Viettel is the only enterprise to deploy the 5G SA (Standalone) network, which is a complete 5G network, with all core network components and radio transmitters belonging to the 5G network generation, capable of reaching speeds of up to 10 Gbps. In actual use conditions, 5G speed is 15 to 20 times higher than 4G.

Some "exclusive" applications of 5G SA include: Network Slicing allows for separate network configuration for each customer group according to needs, customers needing ultra-low latency, private networks with high security capabilities for security and defense; telemedicine takes advantage of ultra-low latency <1ms and high reliability (99.9999%); smart cities and smart factories connect millions of IoT devices within one km² to operate sensors, real-time monitoring and automation.

Viettel has also integrated its self-researched and produced 5G ecosystem into the national infrastructure on a large scale, including 5G gNodeB broadcasting stations, 5GC core network systems and vOCS 4.0 billing systems. This has contributed to the total number of 5G stations exceeding the set commitment, while affirming the high-tech capabilities that Viettel has invested in research over the past many years.
