Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung has just signed a decision approving the adjustment of the project to restore and embellish the historical relic of the temple of Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu, a project of special significance in preserving cultural heritage and honoring the famous person Dao Duy Tu, who made great contributions to the cause of expanding the territory and building the Dai Viet nation in the 17th century.
According to the decision, the total investment of the project after adjustment is more than 43,597 billion VND, including construction cost of more than 32.8 billion VND, interior cost of 2.55 billion VND, construction investment consultancy of more than 3.4 billion VND, along with management, reserve and site clearance costs.
Investment capital is allocated from Thanh Hoa province's budget (not exceeding VND 31,094 billion) and Nghi Son town's budget and other legally mobilized sources (not exceeding VND 12,503 billion).
The project is invested by the Nghi Son Area Construction Investment Project Management Board, replacing the previous unit. The completion time has been adjusted to before November 30, 2025, to ensure the progress and quality of the project.
The Provincial People's Committee requested the investor to properly implement regulations on investment, construction and conservation of relics, and coordinate with relevant departments and branches so that the project is completed on schedule, worthy of the historical and cultural value of the relic.
Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu Temple is located in Son Thang residential group, Dao Duy Tu ward, is a national historical relic, preserved and promoted by the local government and people for many generations.
The project is a place for cultural and spiritual activities of the people, and at the same time a memorial place for Dao Duy Tu (1572 - 1634), an outstanding military, political and cultural figure of Thanh land.
Dao Duy Tu, also known as Loc Khe, was born in Hoa Trai village, Ngoc Son district (now Dao Duy Tu ward, Thanh Hoa province). Although he was famous for his intelligence and good study, he was not allowed to take the provincial exam because he came from a family of singers.
In 1625, he left his hometown for Binh Dinh, assisted Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, contributed to the construction of Truong Duc citadel, Dinh Bac Truong Thanh and many military works, and was known as the person "who brought peace to the country and unified the society".
After his death in 1634, he was posthumously honored many times through the dynasties. In the 12th year of Minh Mang (1831), he was given the title of Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong, and in 1939, King Bao Dai posthumously honored him as “Trac Vi Thuong Dang Than” and issued a decree to build a temple in his hometown.
Experiencing historical events, Dao Duy Tu Temple was seriously degraded. In the period of 2018 - 2023, the project was renovated with many items such as the main temple, ceremonial gate, left and right wings, drum tower, gong tower, fence, electricity and water system... helping the relic's appearance to be spacious, becoming a destination attracting thousands of tourists every year.
With its great historical and cultural value, in 2002, Dao Duy Tu Temple was ranked as a national historical relic, and in December 2021, it was recognized as a provincial tourist destination.
