Bulgarian President and his wife hosted the welcoming ceremony for General Secretary To Lam and his wife.

On the morning of October 23 (local time), the welcoming ceremony for General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation took place solemnly at St. Alexander Nevski Square, in the center of Sofia (Bulgaria).

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his wife Desislava Radeva hosted the welcoming ceremony.

The car carrying General Secretary To Lam and his wife entered the square, solemnly welcomed by the ceremonial team and military band.

President Rumen Radev and his wife welcomed General Secretary To Lam and his wife at the parking lot, shook hands, welcomed and invited General Secretary To Lam and his wife to move to the red carpet and step into the position of honor.

The head of the guard of honor welcomed General Secretary To Lam and his wife to Bulgaria. In a solemn atmosphere, the military band played the Vietnamese and Bulgarian national anthems.

Afterwards, the two leaders introduced the official delegations of the two countries attending the welcoming ceremony. General Secretary To Lam and Bulgarian President Rumen Radev inspected the guard of honor.

Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with President Rumen Radev and his wife, laid a wreath in memory of the unknown soldiers at the Unknown Soldier Monument.

The General Secretary's visit takes place at a time when the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and this is the first visit by a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam after Bulgaria's regime transformation in 1990.

The visit also demonstrates Vietnam's respect for traditional partners and friends who have provided valuable support and contributions to the past struggle to protect the Fatherland and the current cause of national construction and development...

This visit will be an opportunity for the leaders of the two countries to strategically orient and elevate Vietnam-Bulgaria relations to a new level, especially in areas where Bulgaria has strengths and Vietnam has needs, such as information technology, quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, green transformation, and biomedical science. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for the two countries to build a solid bridge of trust connecting Bulgaria with ASEAN and vice versa, Vietnam with the EU.
