The Barca 'prodigy' received 3,310 points from the vote of 133 judges, including journalists from Marca newspaper.
With this score, Lamine Yamal topped the “Marca 100 ” list, forcing his strong opponent Ousmane Dembele ( PSG ) to come in second. Ranked third is another member of the rich French team – Vitinha.
Yamal has had a fantastic 2024/25 campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists for Barca in all competitions. What is appealing is the football the Spain international brings, as well as his ability to make a difference on the pitch.
On the pitch, Lamine Yamal is much more mature than his 17 years old (last season) – now 18 (July 13), which surprised everyone. That is probably the reason why he received the highest score from the jury members organized by Marca.
Lamine Yamal has shown a remarkable improvement in his ability over time. For example, in the 2023/24 season, the player completed only 96 successful dribbles, but in the last campaign, that number was 245.
He has also grown physically, becoming more muscular and growing 10cm taller in the past year – from 1m71 to 1m81.
Yamal and Dembele are currently considered to be in a fierce 'race' for the 2025 Ballon d'Or. The PSG star has the advantage of winning the Champions League with PSG, with a prominent role, contributing 35 goals and 16 assists in all competitions.
However, he could not maintain that stability in the FIFA Days in June with the French team in the Nations League as well as being quite lackluster in the FIFA Club World Cup. With Yamal, it was a domestic treble with Barca and although he had to stop in the Champions League semi-finals, he left a strong impression.
The winner of the 2025 Ballon d'Or will be announced on September 22.
