Doctors from the Department of Orthopedics and Burns - Ha Tinh General Hospital have just successfully performed arthroscopic ankle surgery on a 47-year-old male patient. This is the first time this technique has been implemented in the area.
Doctors from the Department of Orthopedics and Burns (Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital) performed the surgery.
Patient VTT (47 years old, in Nam Dien commune, Thach Ha district) said that 2 months ago, while working, he accidentally slipped and fell, injuring his left ankle. Although his family took him to many places for examination and treatment with many types of medicine (traditional medicine), it did not help.
Recently, the patient had a lot of pain, swollen and aching ankles, and could not walk, so his family took him to the provincial hospital for examination. After being admitted to the hospital, the doctors of the Orthopedic and Burn Department ordered an MRI scan, which revealed that the patient had a torn talar cartilage and chronic arthritis of the left ankle.
Immediately after diagnosing the disease, doctors performed arthroscopic ankle surgery to remove the detached cartilage and debride the inflamed tissue...
Doctor Nguyen Manh Duc - Deputy Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Burns, who directly performed this technique, said: surgeons use a scalpel to create 2 small holes in the ankle joint with a small size of only 0.2 - 0.3cm, then insert the endoscopic probe through these 2 holes into the joint. During the surgery, with the support of the camera mounted on the probe, doctors clearly see the image of cartilage damage with many inflammatory tissues in the joint.

Up to now, after 6 days of surgery, the incision has dried, the patient can move around lightly and is completing procedures to prepare for discharge from the hospital.
Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure commonly used by orthopedic surgeons to diagnose and treat ankle problems. This procedure uses a camera that magnifies and transmits images of the ankle to a video screen to operate inside and around the ankle through small incisions in the skin. This results in less pain, less bleeding, and a faster recovery than traditional open surgery.
The implementation of ankle arthroscopic surgery at Ha Tinh General Hospital has helped patients in the area receive the most optimal treatment method without having to go to a central hospital for the procedure.
